P6 Week Beginning 24.1.22

Hi all,

The class did a wonderful job at reciting their poems on Friday, I was very impressed by the enthusiasm and passion from all.

P.E with Miss Simpson is on Tuesday and Thursday. Please ensure your child comes dressed in P.E clothes and brings a bottle of water for hydration.

Mandarin is on Wednesday with Miss Sun.

On Wednesday, we will have our second skiing lesson. Please ensure your child has long, thick socks and warm gloves (ski gloves are preferred!). The class had a wonderful time this week and I think they were all exhausted by the end of the day!

Homework:

Reading – Children will have reading homework every night. The pages to be read will be written in their reading record, please sign this every night to evidence that homework has been completed.

Spelling – On Monday, the class will copy their new spelling list and will bring this home alongside a task to complete too. Please ensure your child completes their homework in neat, cursive handwriting. This is due in for Friday.

Numeracy– We have been revising division in class, especially using written methods to work it out. The children will have a division task to complete for Friday too.

P6 should continue to bring in packed lunches from home.

On Wednesday, P6 will have their first skiing lesson – how exciting!! Children should come to school dressed in their ski wear and can bring their uniform in their school bag to change into upon return. All ski equipment is provided by Hillend (boots, helmets, etc.) Please ensure your child knows their show size so they are able to be given correct fitting boots. The bus will leave promptly on Wednesday morning, so it is important that all children arrive on time.

At the end of the month, we will be welcoming Ms Gault, who will be joining us until mid-March for her teaching placement.

Homework:

Reading – Children will have reading homework every night. The pages to be read will be written in their reading record, please sign this every night to evidence that homework has been completed.

P6 Week Beginning 10.1.22

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

I hope you all had a wonderful and peaceful festive break, it was so lovely to see all the children today. I feel like it has been forever since I last saw them all, and I loved hearing all about their Christmas news.

P.E. has now changed to Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, please can your child come to school dressed for P.E on these days.

We begin our skiing lessons next week (Wednesday 19th January) and I know the children are very excited for them. Please remember as it is cold the children will need:

  • Warm trousers or loose fitting jogging bottoms (no thin leggings)
  • Warm jumper and a waterproof jacket
  • Waterproof outerwear is advised
  • Ski or good hard wearing warm gloves
  • Warm/thick long socks

Please ensure that your child is on time for school as the bus leaves promptly on Wednesday morning! It is also advised that hair is worn in low pony tails and no hair products are used on skiing days. (e.g. hairspray and hair gel)

Due to a slight tightening of Covid restrictions within school, children in P6 can no longer buy a school dinner. Therefore, pupils should bring their own packed lunch from home once more. Children will eat this in the classroom.

Homework will begin next week and will follow the same routine as it did prior to the holidays. The children will have reading, spelling and a numeracy/other activity each week. This will be given out on a Monday and has to be returned on Friday.

Over the next three weeks, we have a whole school Scottish focus. Over these weeks we will be learning all about Scotland, including famous Scots and Scots’ language. At the end of the month we will have our Scottish poetry recital too. This week the children will have the chance to pick from three different Scottish poems and they will bring this home to learn. At the end of the next week, the children will have time to recite their poem to the class. This will be a great opportunity for them to showcase their passion and enthusiasm!

Mandarin will continue on Wednesday afternoons with Miss Sun.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you need anything.

The temperature has certainly dropped and we are  feeling it in class as we have to keep our windows open for ventilation. Please remember that children can bring in extra jumpers/hoodies to wear and keep in the class to keep them warm.

We have P.E. on Monday and Wednesday.

Miss Sun will take Mandarin on Wednesday.

On Tuesday afternoon, we are watching the Dunedin Consort, 2pm – 2:45pm.

Homework will be handed out on Monday and should be handed in on Friday. This week, there will be spelling and reading. This week, there will be no extra task. Please ensure your child completes their reading homework daily. This is the last week of homework for this term.

The Christmas post box returns on Monday. Please ensure your child writes the child’s name and class on the envelope before posting, so it can be delivered to the correct person.

On Thursday, we will be recording our Christmas song, Last Christmas. For this the children can bring in a Christmas jumper to change into, Christmas headbands and hats too. Along with scarves and gloves, if they have any! Please ensure your child wears school uniform on Thursday and they bring their Christmas jumper (if they have one) in their bag to change into for the short period we will be filming. Thank you.

Our school is one of the donation points for the Church Christmas donations. If you would like to donate a gift (unwrapped) to the school office for this, then please do so by Friday 10th December. Alternatively, your child can bring it into school with them and it can be passed on to the office too.

On Tuesday afternoon, we have another Dunedin consort workshop.

Homework will be handed out on Monday and should be handed in on Friday. This week, there will be spelling, reading and numeracy. This week, the numeracy task will involve revising our multiplication and division skills.

Please ensure your child can get logged into Google Classroom this week, as we hope to use this for homework going forward in Primary 6! If you have any issues with logging in, then please do get in touch. The children should be logging into Google and not GLOW.
