As this week is help week children are allowed to come to school in sports clothing however please no football shirts, thank you.

Literacy

This weeks spelling sound is  ‘-ture’ as in ‘future and adventure’. Please encourage children to practise these at home.

Every child has been sent home with some cursive writing practise and revision of silent sounds. Children should complete each word 3 times in cursive handwriting. Please then get your child to turn over and write 3 sentences on the back using 3 of the words off of the sheet. This should also be in cursive. If you’re child is still working through the common words booklet, as I know some are, please continue to do so.

Literacy

This weeks spelling sounds are  ‘-are’ as in ‘care’ and ‘share’ found on list 22 of the spelling sheet . As usual can you write the words out in your choice of format and then write three sentences for three of your spelling words.

In addition to this I am going to send home a common words work book which we will be working through one page a week for the rest of term. This is due to recent a assessment highlighted that a lot of children are still finding these challenging so this will be a big focus for us over the final weeks in p3… final weeks in p3, can you believe it?!

Hi all,

As you know reading books have not went out this week as we have been doing lots of assessments this week and possibly looking at moving some pupils groups.

Homework that has been sent home this week is a letter layout and a letter features checklist. The expectation is that the children will write me a letter  detailing what they have been doing in their Easter holidays. Children are to be encouraged to use cursive writing as well as varied connectives and punctuation. This is the only homework this week.

Red Nose Day

This Friday is Comic Relief. The enterprise has opted for a Disney theme and are welcoming donations for Comic Relief. Options for dressing up/down are fancy dress as a Disney/Fairy tale character or Disney/Fairy tale related clothing. We appreciate this is last minute, please do not feel obligated to buy something new for the occasion if children don’t have anything to fit the chosen theme they are encouraged to wear a red piece of clothing but of course school uniform is fine too.

I have sent home a reading for understanding worksheet based on the children’s fairy tale ‘The Billy Goats Gruff’. This is the main homework alongside reading this week.

p3 Homework week beginning 4/3/19

Hi all,

Big apologies for the lack of post last week. As p3 know I can be a little bit silly and I realised I have written last weeks post and clicked save as draft instead of  publish! I didn’t even notice until now as I write this weeks. So once again apologies.

Request

P3 have been learning all about measure and having covered weight and length we are now looking at capacity. A fun activity we are looking to do is to create our very own lava lamps. Similarly we are building lots of models to further our learning in our new ‘Human Body’ topic. If you have any plastic bottles (of any size) at home or glass jars (don’t have to have lids) I would really appreciate if you could donate them to us to help us with our active learning.

Homework

Many of the children’s homework jotters went home unmarked as they weren’t handed in on Monday. I will look over them and mark them this coming Monday if they are handed in.

Literacy

This weeks spelling sounds are is ‘ou’ and ‘ow ‘ as in ‘cloud’ and ‘crowd’ found on list 21 of the spelling sheet . However spelling homework this week is optional. In its place I have sent home a reading for understanding worksheet based on the children’s fairy tale ‘The Enormous Turnip’. Reading for understanding is equally if not more important as reading for fluency. In class, many children have been finding this type of work particularly challenging therefore I will be sending home a new one each week for the next few weeks to give the children more experience doing this.

Screen Addiction

e-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Loanhead Primary School . We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any e-Safety incidents are recorded and managed.  e-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

Recently, many of the children have been talking about the Momo challenge and have been increasingly worried about it.  Like many of these online phenomenon the publicity and hype has made this a lot bigger than it needs to be.  For a quick briefing on it see the link below.
