Good morning everyone.

Once again, I have forgotten to announce homework on a Monday afternoon. I am very sorry for this, and can assure you that this will not happen again anytime soon!

I managed to hear several children on Monday who wanted to be considered for the Scottish Poetry Recital, and I have to say I was delighted by the high standard in Primary 3. A massive well done to all the children who participated, and I look forward to hearing the rest of the class over the week in a more casual setting.

Homework for this week is the spelling pattern /oa/ and reading your child’s full book for Friday. Please remember to make sure your child has their reading record and spelling jotter with them on Friday, as this is when I collect these items and prepare them for the next week.

Finally, in two Fridays time, Primary 3 will be performing their Scottish Inventors assembly! Details to come next week, but it might be time to start looking out for any old Scottish clothing 🙂

Hello everyone, apologies for the late homework announcement, which is down to human error!

This week’s homework is reading homework as normal again (the whole book read in time for Friday please), and the /ie/ spelling pattern in spelling jotters.

On Monday 20th January, any child that would like to be considered for the whole school poetry recital must know their poems so we can hear how they are getting on! I’m looking forward to hearing P3’s renditions 🙂

Hello everyone, welcome back! I hope you all had a restful winter break.

Starting this Thursday, P3 will be getting rugby lessons in school time in addition to normal PE, so please make sure that your child has the right kit for this!

As we are approaching Burn’s night, I have sent home copies of three poems for your child to pick from for poetry recital. We went over these in class today, however if there are any further questions about pronunciation please get in touch! Poems will be recited the week beginning 20/1, and rehearsal of your child’s chosen poem will be this week’s reading homework. Reading book work will resume next week.

This week’s spelling homework is practice of the /ee/ pattern. The words are as follows:

1. arm

2. shark

3. seen

4. three

5. seat

6. cream

7. please

8. teenager

9. eleven

10. twelve

Finally, today we welcomed Mrs Sharpe to Primary 3 where she will be working as our new Learning Assistant! Mrs Sharpe will be in our class Mondays through to Fridays.

Hello everyone,

Thank you so much for the gifts and cards I received this week. I feel very flattered by the thought put into them and I know they will all go to good use over the next two weeks!

You have all been very supportive and helpful in 2019 so I would also like to thank you for that. Primary 3 are a wonderful class, and totally deserve the break for all their hard work in school. I hope you all enjoy the winter break and I shall see you in 2020 for more!

Hello P3 parents,

I’ve arranged a class trip to the Loanhead Library next Thursday, where the library staff will read a story to the class and they’ll get a chance to browse the book selection. We need two parent helpers for the trip due to class numbers, so this is my plea for any volunteers! We will leave school at 10:15am and return for 11:15am. If you are interested, could you please let me know at s.mcgaff@mgfl.net as soon as possible? It will be the first two to respond to me that we’ll take along.

Hello everyone,

For P3’s homework this week, I have decided against standard reading and spelling homework. Instead, I have created a revision sheet that covers a few things we have done in 2019. This homework is entirely optional, but it should be a nice way to refresh your child’s memory before we break up for the winter break. Feel free to answer questions on the back of the sheet or on a separate piece of paper, and let me know if you have enjoyed the format and I can prepare something similar for next week! 🙂

Hello everyone,

I have decided to stop setting spelling homework for the rest of the term, as the intensity of work in class will be reducing over the next three weeks. However, if you do wish to practice spelling with your child, I would recommend practicing the /ai/ pattern with them:

1. next
2. quit
3. make
4. pay
5. main
6. clay
7. waist
8. rainstorm
9. half
10. quarter

For reading, could you try and read half of the book for Wednesday, and finish books for Friday and return them that day. I will make a decision closer to the weekend about whether I think we have the energy to continue reading homework next week!
