P3 Home Learning WB 10/02/17

Welcome back. I hope you all had a lovely break.

News for this term…..

  • We are starting a novel study on ‘The Twits’. As we are basing all our reading tasks around this there will be no reading book sent home (I predict this will be 2/3 week). Please continue to read every night. I have stuck a reading journal into the back of homework jotters. Reading can be anything from, stories, an article on the internet, reading a recipe. Be as creative as you like!
  • French – We will be having Margaux, a French language assistant on a Thursday. She has already told us lots about her home in France.
  • Topic- Ancient Egyptians continues.

Homework….

Homework grid will be inside homework jotters. It is due in for the 3rd March.

If anybody had any copies of ‘The Twits’ at home I would be very grateful if the class could borrow them as we are going to complete a novel study after the February break.

Poetry

Just a little reminder. We will be reciting our Scottish poems on Monday (23rd). Two children will be chosen to recite their poems to the whole school on Weekday (25th).

Scottish afternoon

On Wednesday afternoon (25th) the lower atrium (P1-4) will be having a Scottish afternoon. We will be celebrating with food, music and dancing. Your child is more that welcome to wear something ‘Scottish’ if they wish.

Homework

Sorry I did not collect the homework in on Friday. I will collect it in on Monday and send the new homework grid out on Tuesday. In class, we will be focusing on poetry and also reading comprehension this week. Therefore, for this week’s reading homework I will send a comprehension task instead of reading book. Some children may come home with a book so please check reading folders.

Any questions please do not hesitate to get in contact.

Book Week Scotland 21st-26th Novemeber

Book Week Scotland 21st-26th NovemberImage result for quotes about reading

P3 will be celebrating Book Week Scotland next week. Due to other exciting reading activities we will not be following our normal reading schedule. I will not be sending reading home. Instead, I would like children to read for enjoyment or share books together as a family. Children should aim to read for 20 minutes each night. See below for further information.

  • I would like children to bring a book in next week to read for enjoyment (if you don’t have a new one or you forget then there are plenty in school to borrow). In addition to this, I would like them to bring in their favourite book. If they could keep it in school for the week that would be great.
  • In class we will be using the ipads to create ‘book trailers’ in groups (like film trailers), writing book reviews on our favourite books, creating book marks for the library visit and recommending books to each other.
  • Children will be asked if they want to do a really short informal book talk. It will be a little like show and tell but for book recommendations. They should introduce their book, say why they like it, why they would recommend it to other children and read a very small excerpt from it. I will speak to children about this next week and then send a little slip home so they can prepare.
  • On Friday 26th we will end the week with an exciting visit to Loanhead Library.
