P3 Update and Homework w/c 5.11.18

Hi all,

Homework Schedule

Up until now we have been operating on homework being distributed on Tuesday and being due on the Friday however quite a few of the kids have been concerned that they didn’t have enough time to get everything done due to out of school commitments. Therefore Spelling homework will now be handed out on Tuesday and be due in the following Monday so everyone has equal opportunity to do it.

This week our sound is soft g as in giant, magic and gym and understanding that just as soft c’s ”best friends” ( letters that must follow to soften then sound are i, e and y so too are soft g’s. We are also working on proper nouns. Whilst there are no specific homework dedicated to this I would encourage you to challenge the children to find them in stories or in the environment around them.

Remembrance

Just so you are aware p7 will be selling poppies throughout the week should your child want to purchase one with the suggested donation being £1. Also our Remembrance service lead by p7 is this Friday at 10:55am.

NSPCA Online safety for parents/carers

We are lucky enough this week to have people in school from th NSPCA running a course on online safety for parents and carers in the community rooms on Friday the 9th of November at 9:30-10:30.  You are all welcome to come along if you are free to join.

November Newsletter

A copy of this has gone home today with children however I do appear to have a large amount left over. This is a handy thing to have as it has all the dates for your diary so if you do find you need a copy of this just let me know and I will pass it along. Also you will find that Christmas Fair Friday is down for Friday the 30th of December. This is a misprint as we will all be off enjoying our winter holidays by then! The date of the fair is in fact November 30th.

P3 Homework and Assembly

Hi all,

Hope everyone had a lovely holiday, I know your kids did after all the great stories I have heard today. I must say am jealous!

As this week is the p3 class assembly I have chosen to hold back our spelling work to next week as many of the children have lots of words to practice. We will be sharing our learning about our endangered animals topic with the whole school so we are all very excited!  In addition to this we will be performing a song as a class called ‘Animals in Danger’. I have provided lyrics at the bottom of the post as well as a media link to the song. If for some reason the link doesn’t work the song is on Youtube under the same title. Any support at home with learning the song and lines or even just improving fluency when reading them is hugely appreciated. If your child has come home with no lines it is because they are part of our learning gallery and are sharing their art work they are proud of.

If you do so wish to carry on working on spelling in class we are revising silent b, k and  w as well as ea as e, ch as k and wh.

Just a quick reminder that all children’ s PE kits should be returned for Wednesday as that is our regular PE day.

P3 will also be taking part in a drumming workshop this Thursday using Peruvian Cajon drums which is very exciting.

Thank you in advance for your support with our class assembly,

Miss Ramsay

Animals in Danger Lyrics

(Words and Music by Liam Maloy © 2009)

If the jungle was your playground and the forest was your home

And the meadows and the mountains were where you loved to roam,

If you woke up in the morning and all of this were gone,

How would you feel?

If your friends were all around you and your neighbours were there too

Every member of your family was living close to you

If you woke up in the morning all alone and in a zoo,

How would you feel?

Danger.  Danger.  Animals in danger.

From the big to the small.

And we stand or fall together.

‘Cause this world needs us all.

This world is like a jigsaw so no pieces must be lost.

When a species is no longer every creature pays the cost.

There are birds and bees and bison,

Pigs and pandas we may never see again.

Danger.  Danger.  Animals in danger.

From the big to the small.

And we stand or fall together.

‘Cause this world needs us all.

We all need a place to live. We all need a place to grow.

We need food and air and water to survive.

So we can walk and swim and fly on the land, in sea and sky

And stay alive.

Danger.  Danger.  Animals in danger.

From the big to the small.

And we stand or fall together.

‘Cause this world needs us all.

Danger.  Danger.  Animals in danger.

From the big to the small.

And we stand or fall together.

‘Cause this world needs us all.

p3 Homework W/B 24/9/18

Hi all,

Big apology for homework not having been posted here last week. After being very ill all week it completely slipped my mind and I hope it didn’t throw too many people.

The list we will be working from this week is ‘ph’. In class we have been working on how to make spelling more enjoyable as I found a lot of the kids were becoming quite disengaged so I will be sending home a grid containing some of the new spelling activities we have been trialing in class. Homework will go out on Tuesday and must be returned by Friday to allow me time to look over it. If occasionally they do need more time, as I know some of the children do attend clubs and have out of school commitments, could you leave me a little note in reading records to let me know and it can be returned on Monday.  Can I ask that if your child has lost or misplaced their spelling sheets that you either catch me after school or send a quick note in with your child on Monday so I have time to photocopy new ones.

Hope you all have a lovely week,

Miss Ramsay

P3 Homework w/b 10.9.18

Hi all,

Our sound this week is silent K therefore spelling homework is from the silent K list on the spelling sheet.  This week we have also been working on descriptive writing so where possible in your child’s final sentences can you encourage them to use WOW words (descriptive vocabulary) as far as possible.

The homework grid I mentioned last week I have decided to hold off on until further notice.

Reading homework for this week is as follows:

We have also been doing lots of work on our two times table in class and understanding that 2 x 4 ,for example, means 2 groups of 4. Revision of this at home is optional but greatly appreciated.

Due to staffing there have been some changes in p3’s timetable and they will now take part in PE with me on a Wednesday and on a Thursday morning with Mrs Wallace. In addition to this we have also managed to secure a music spot with the amazing Ms Grigor on Friday!

Also a quick little reminder that individual and sibling photographs will be happening on Wednesday. Get ready to strike a pose p3!

P3 Homework w.b 3/9/18

Hi all,

Hope you have been hearing all about our learning in p3 so far and hope your kids have been loving it as much as me!

I have sent home our first lot of homework this week which you will find in your child’s reading folder or school bag. They now all have a reading book as well as a small blue reading record which details what the reading homework is as well as a small comment about their reading in class that day.

As of today reading is as follows:

New name yet to be determined(former Blueberries #1)

  • Robbie Woods and his Merry Men – To the end of Chapter 1

New name yet to be determined (former Blueberries #2)

  • Flans Across the River – To the end of Chapter 1

Pandas (former Blueberries #3)

  • Storm Castle – Pages 1-14

Polar Bears (former Apples)

  • Castle Adventure – Pages 1-8

Orangutans (former Strawberries)

  • Viking Adventure Pages 1-14

In addition to this all children have been given a pink homework jotter and a sheet with 6 spelling lists for the coming weeks. Only one spelling should be completed each week as this sheet spans the next 5 weeks with the first list already having been covered in class. This allows you to practise the same spelling patterns we are working on in class and maintaining consistency between home and school. So far we have covered the first 2 spelling lists ( silent -b and silent -w).  The expectation is that children can look, cover, write and check these words a minimum of 3 times over the week and on the final night can use some of their spelling words in context in some sentences.

Next week I will be sending out a homework grid which will have a variety of other activities that can be done to support numeracy and literacy. This will also cover the whole term.  Children should choose only 1 activity a week to complete. It would be extremely helpful if you could traffic light this ( green for done with little support, orange for significantly supported and red for unable to complete even with support) to let me know how your child got on with each task.

If you have any concerns or questions please feel free to contact me.

All the Best,

Miss Ramsay

Another Successful Health Week!

This week has been our Health Week at Loanhead Primary, and what an amazing week it has been.  Every class has enjoyed learning about health and wellbeing as well as trying out different sports and healthy activities.  We thank Mrs Duncan for organising this week for us, without her then this week could not have happened.

Classes kicked off the week with our amazing sports day, another thanks to Mrs Duncan and the P7s for running this for the school.  It was a lovely afternoon filled with a lot of laughter and team spirit and it was great to see so many parents, carers, friends and family here to support the pupils.

The rest of the week was filled with our early morning warm ups in the playground, American Football, Football, Hockey, Cycling, Rugby, Judo, Movement to Music, Yoga, Judo, Relaxation, Healthy food making, Dance, Sleep and gaming awareness, Police talks, Internet safety, our fabulous bike breakfast (storm Hector can not stop us!) and so much more!

Here are some photos of this amazing week.

Primary 3 Homework – 12th to 18th June

Primary 3 Homework – 12th to 18th June

Health Week is in full swing now, with the children getting to have a go at judo, rugby, hockey, dancing and basketball.

We are also building up to our second P3 assembly of the year, which will take place on Friday 22nd June. If you are free on the day then please do come along and watch at 11:45am.

I have set a little less homework this week because I expect everyone will be tired out by all the extra exercise!

Best wishes,

Mr Buchan

Numeracy

This week we are looking at division.

To revise the basic concept, see if you can spot things at home that divide into equal groups / shares.

For example, if there are twelve apples a bag then how many would three of us each get?

I have also set a SumDog challenge on division / multiplication for those who are enjoying that sort of practice.

Reading

Reading grids will come home as usual, along with unfinished quizzes on Thursday.

Mr Buchan
