P3 Homework w/b 18/2/2019

Hi all,

This week in school is science week! It was kicked off today by the fabulous company Generation Science who took the kids for a brilliant workshop all about forces. The kids enjoyed this immensely.

Our science focus for the rest of the week will be centered around the body. In particular the skeleton!

As usual homework will go out on Tuesday and be returned the following Monday.

Spelling

This weeks spelling pattern is controlled vowels.  We are focusing on ‘er’ , ‘ir’ and ‘ur’ as in fern, girl, burn. When a vowel comes before an ‘r’ the vowel sound is changed. ‘er‘ makes the /r/ sound, and so do ‘ir‘ and ‘ur‘. When the /r/ sound is at the end of a 2 or more syllable word, the sound is usually spelled with the ‘er‘, but there is no rule of when to use ‘ir‘ and ‘ur‘. The corresponding spelling list for this is spelling list 19 which is only titled ‘er’.

Copy the spelling words in one of the ways suggested on the spelling menu and write 3 sentences.

Maths-

No maths homework this week.

Topic-

As we begin to round off our Scottish Inventors topic I would like the children to do a short 2 minute talk about a Scottish inventor after having conducted their own research at home. Children can if they wish use a powerpoint and notes. They may also discuss one of the inventors they have learned in school but are encouraged to research their own inventor at home.

I appreciate this takes some preparation time so children will also be given their IT time in class to research this. The speeches will be heard in small groups and will take place on Thursday the 28th  of February and on Friday the 1st of March.

p3 Homework 22/01/2019

Hi all,

Apologies for the written homework not returning last week, unfortunately I was off work ill at the start of the week. I hope everyone had a fantastic time over the holidays and that your children are enjoying being back in the swing of things in school.

As usual homework will go out on Tuesday and be returned the following Monday.

Missing Jotters and Folders

Upon organising the homework I noticed quite a few children are missing jotters or folders which makes it difficult to ensure that all the children are getting their homework and keeping their things together without going missing. If you find  child does have a missing jotter could you send me in a little note and I will get them a new one and similarly with the reading folders as I can provide a poly pocket for them to use.

Spelling

This weeks spelling pattern is the long o vowel sound made using ‘oa’ ‘o_e’ and ‘ow’ as in boat, stone and bow. These can be found on Spelling list 16 on the new spelling words issued this week.

Can I ask that you are getting the children to also write a minimum of three sentences as well as practicing their spelling words as good sentence structure is something many of the children are not using within class. Your children should now be aware of vocabulary including adjectives, nouns, proper nouns and verbs as well as punctuation including full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and speech marks and are encouraged to use these within their writing.

Maths

As normal select a task from the home learning wall. Please remember to colour in tasks after you have done them so I can see what you have done at home and know when to issue a new home learning wall.

HOMEWORK

Spelling

Our sound this week is -air (hair, chair, stair etc). Spelling homework is as usual.

Numeracy

Quite a few children are concerned that they don’t have time to complete this alongside everything else. Can I stress that it is only one brick on the wall a week and this can be done during the week or even the weekend as I don’t check jotters until the following Monday. I really encourage personalisation and choice in learning and hope this learning wall approach to numeracy homework allows for that.

Homework w/c 19/11/18

Hi all,

We had a fantastic turn out today for our pyjama day for Children in Need.Thank you for all of your donations and support. When I know the total I will let you know but it was great fun!

Book Week

This week in school is book week! Throughout the week if your child has a favourite book or a book they are reading at home as we will be partaking in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) and  will be reading at regular intervals throughout the day.

Just a quick reminder that Thursday is a dress up day in school and children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. I have my costume prepped and at the ready!

Homework

Finally as it is book week this is a good opportunity to share our favourite stories with each other therefore I am asking that children prepare a short talk of 2-3 minutes on their favourite book. Information should include:

  • The book title and author
  • Why they like the book and their favourite part of the story
  • Their favourite character and least favourite character and why.

I will hear the talks on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Children can present with notes, power points or drawings if they choose but it is not essential.

Spelling

Our spelling sound this week for homework is ou as in u eg double, trouble country etc.

Maths

This week I will also be sending home a large yellow homework jotter which contains a home learning wall similar to the spelling menu. Again children are asked to complete one brick on the wall each week and colour it in red, yellow or green based on understanding.  As some of the activities are practical and may not be able to be evidenced in the jotter pictures may be stuck in to the jotters or just a short note to let me know how they got on.

P3 Homework w/b 12.11.18

Homework Spelling

This week our sound of the week is ‘wa’ (wo)  as in was, water and swan. Please use the spelling menu as last week but could you also encourage your child to write three sentences in their jotter using one of their spelling sound as before as this is good practice of writing and sentence structure. We will also be looking at adjectives in class as part of our grammar lessons so this may be something you wish to discuss at home orally.

Athletics

In addition to their usual PE slots on a Wednesday and Thursday p3 will be also taking part in a 4 week block of athletics from Monday the 12th of November until Monday the 3rd of December. Please make sure your child has all the necessary PE kit to take part as it the programme really does look like it will be loads of fun!
