P4 Homework w/c 27.1.20

Hello and a huge well done to all those pupils who took part in the Scottish poetry competition last Friday. P4 were particularly proud of FC and AP for their fabulous contribution.

Homework

  • Spelling: Pupils will write their new spelling words in their jotter on Wednesday this week. At home they should use:

LOOK    THINK    COVER    WRITE    CHECK

to write out their new spelling words three times in neat columns. They should also complete a green activity card which will earn pupils 2 credit card points. An optional red activity may be completed for extra practice (and 1 credit card point) but is not mandatory

  • Numeracy & Maths: please continue to practise individually chosen, times tables for ‘hot-seat’ testing in class
  • Reading: pupils will continue to learn new Literacy Circle roles in class over the next few weeks so there will be no need to take reading books home.  Reading groups will continue to be heard in class
  • Pupil Talks: pupils have chosen dates and times for their personal choice of topic to be presented to the class (slips went home w/c 13.1.20). Talks should be approximately 2 minutes with questions at the end. Skills will be taught in class over the coming weeks and slips include some handy hints but please ensure pupils do not worry about this and have fun preparing. We look forward to hearing the following pupils on Wednesday afternoon: TC, HC, FA, ZM, MK & CS
  • PE : will continue as normal this week on Tuesday and Thursday with a P4 class handball tournament on Fridays over the coming weeks

I would just like to say a huge well done to LT and ES who showed great confidence reciting their poems to the whole school on Friday – the class and I are very proud of them both. 🙂

Learning Trio Appointment slips have been given to every child last week, if you require a change to your appointment then please contact the school office regarding this. Just a gentle reminder that your child must be present at the meeting too. 

For the next few weeks, P2 will have P.E. on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Rugby will also continue this week on Thursday afternoon. Please ensure your child brings a bottle filled with water and a full P.E kit.

Homework for the week:

Reading: As always, the pages to be read have been written in your child’s green reading record. Please sign beside the date to show reading has been completed each night.

Spelling: This week we are learning magic e with u (u_e). For example, cube, tube and flute. Just a reminder that children can write their spelling list in rainbow colours, silly sentences or even do an active activity (play dough words, making words with magnets etc.) – you can glue photos of this in their jotter or write about it!

This week’s homework (due Friday 24th January)

Good morning everyone.

Once again, I have forgotten to announce homework on a Monday afternoon. I am very sorry for this, and can assure you that this will not happen again anytime soon!

I managed to hear several children on Monday who wanted to be considered for the Scottish Poetry Recital, and I have to say I was delighted by the high standard in Primary 3. A massive well done to all the children who participated, and I look forward to hearing the rest of the class over the week in a more casual setting.

Homework for this week is the spelling pattern /oa/ and reading your child’s full book for Friday. Please remember to make sure your child has their reading record and spelling jotter with them on Friday, as this is when I collect these items and prepare them for the next week.

Finally, in two Fridays time, Primary 3 will be performing their Scottish Inventors assembly! Details to come next week, but it might be time to start looking out for any old Scottish clothing 🙂

P5 Week beginning 20/01/20

This week homework is as usual:

Spelling: To be handed in on Friday, please see purple homework jotter for the spelling sound/pattern. In addition to their sentences, letter or story containing their spelling words Red and Blue group are to also provide 5 new words that follow the same pattern and sound along with their meanings. Green group should provide 3 words and meanings.

Reading: Please see the reading diary. This week we are working on prediction within our reading.

Scottish Poetry Recital: On Monday all children who wanted to be considered for the school recital competition were heard, 2 pupils were chosen, if your child was chosen please help them rehearse it with expression and actions.

All other children will be heard and assessed for part of their learning within listening and talking.

Parent/Teacher/Pupil Meetings ‘Learning Trios’

The second round of meetings will take place on Thursday and Friday , 6th and 7th February respectively. Appointment forms will be sent out this week.

Hello and apologies for the delay in wishing you all a Happy New Year for 2020!

We are delighted to welcome Miss Bone into P4 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays until the February break and then she will be in class full time until the end of March. She will initially observe lessons and then increase responsibility and lead some learning herself with Mrs Roy and myself assisting.

Hi all,

Athletics Competition –Well done Loanhead Primary for WINNING the athletics competition last week – beating five other schools. Loanhead, you rock! We will wait to hear if we gained enough points to go on to the next stage of this event!

Poetry– All pupils across the school have the task of reading and reciting a Scots poem. P7 have ‘Scots Wha Hae’ and ‘Lament for a Lost Dinner Ticket’ to choose to read. We’ll hear the recitals this week beginning Monday 20th January to choose two pupils to recite their poem at a special assembly on Friday 24th January. Expression and performance are very important!

Maths/Numeracy – A revision sheet will be sent home on Wednesday to be completed by next Wednesday.

Debates – Children will be given a topic to research this week and prepare to debate this. Debates will take place week beginning 27th January so this gives children one week to plan. More information to follow.

Pupil Talks/Kids Teach – Many children are nearly finished preparing their WW2 pupil talks. I will confirm dates with pupils this week as to when they can present their work.

P2 Homework w.b. 20.1.20

Hi all,

I hope you are all well! I just wanted to take a moment to say how impressed I am at how quickly the class have settled back into the school routine. They have been working so hard over the past 2 weeks and I am one very proud teacher!!

Just a reminder that children will be reciting their chosen Scots poem to the class on Monday/Tuesday. Then two children will be picked to perform their poem at the Burns assembly on Friday 24th. The parents/carers of the chosen children will be informed and invited to attend the assembly.

Learning Trio appointment slips are going out on Wednesday 22nd January, they will be put in your child’s book bag. If you cannot make your allocated time or require a change then please contact the school office to do this. 

We started rugby on Thursday afternoon with Bradley, and the children had a very fun time. The class will have rugby for the next two Thursday afternoons too.

Homework:

Reading: I have been busy assessing the children and changing reading groups, so some children may have a different stage to read next week. Please continue to support your child with learning their key words (these are only required from Stage 1 – Stage 5). The pages to be read have been written in your child’s green reading record.

Spelling: We are learning magic e with o (o_e), for example, bone, cone and stone.

Hello everyone, apologies for the late homework announcement, which is down to human error!

This week’s homework is reading homework as normal again (the whole book read in time for Friday please), and the /ie/ spelling pattern in spelling jotters.

On Monday 20th January, any child that would like to be considered for the whole school poetry recital must know their poems so we can hear how they are getting on! I’m looking forward to hearing P3’s renditions 🙂
