P6 Information – Week Beg: 13.1.20

Hello,

Information for this week:

Tuesday 14th

A select number of P6 pupils are attending an Indoor Athletics Competition. They will have early lunch and be back by the end of school as normal.

Reminder that any consent forms and payment must be received by the office before the pupils can attend.

Homework

  • Poetry Recitals – As part of Scottish Week, all pupils were given a choice of three poems to take home, read and recite. These are, ‘Red Red Rose’ by Robert Burns, ‘A Dug, A Dug’ by Bill Keys and ‘That’s the Game’ by Jill Bennet. A paper copy of the chosen poem for each pupil was provided last Wednesday. Props and dramatic presentation are all welcome for the recitals!

The deadline was originally set for Wednesday 22nd January. However due to time constraints. I kindly ask if you could try to have these prepared for Monday 20th January instead. This would be greatly appreciated.

  • Spellings have been set for Friday 17th January. These are copied into the red homework jotters on Tuesday. There are two tasks to do for the spelling words this week.
  1. Make a mnemonic poem out of two of your spelling words. (Make sure it makes sense!) For example,

Yummy

Apples

Cause

Happy

Times

  1. Find the meaning of 3 words in your spellings list. Use a dictionary to help you.

  • Maths/Numeracy – A revision sheet for additional practice will be sent home on Friday to be completed for the following week on Friday 24th January.

Thanks for your support,

Mr. Nelson

P2 Homework w.b. 13.1.20

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder that your child has two Scottish poems in their book bag (Mince and Tatties, and Doctor). Your child should pick one which they wish to learn and the children will have a chance to recite this in front of the class on Monday 20th January. Please ensure your child has chosen and had a chance to practice the poem by this date and then some children will be picked to recite their poem at the assembly on Friday 24th January.

P.E. this week will be Monday and Wednesday morning, please ensure your child has full P.E. kit for this.

This coming week (13.1.20) I will be assessing children with their reading and key words, so over the next few weeks some children may move groups and stages in their reading books.

Rugby was unforunately cancelled this week, but as far as I am aware, it will be back on for next week.

We are moving onto money this term in maths – looking at coins up to £2! If children have real life experience with handling money in shops etc. then this would be great to hear about in class.

Reading: The pages to be read have been written in your child’s green reading record. Please encourage your child to read with expression, this is a big focus in our reading groups this term.

Spelling: This week we are looking at magic e with i(i_e). The spelling list contains (i_e) words and tricky words.

As always, please never hesitate to contact me: L.Waller@mgfl.net

Miss Lauren Waller

Primary 5 new year information 6.1.20

Happy New year everyone!

We hope that you have had a relaxing and enjoyable break ready for the new year ahead.  This week we will be reflecting and target setting in preparation for learning trios next month.

Homework – There will be spelling and reading homework this week and pupils have a choice of 3 Scots poems to learn – perform and recite on 22nd January.  All pupils are expected to use these 3 weeks to learn their poem to recite for their classmates.  This is not intended to be stressful and if all pupils try then this is an equally daunting achievement for them all which will help develop their presentation skills.

see here for the choice of Scots Poems

PE – is Tuesday and Thursday again this term and we have Music on a Monday

In Maths we will be revising skills from last year as well as beginning to look at shape and fractions.  Please continue to support your child with their mental maths at home to develop more speed and accuracy.
