P3 Homework week beginning 24.1.21

Hi everyone,

Reminders

I hope everyone is keeping well. As you may have heard we have had some cases of covid in the class. I just want to reiterate the importance of testing at the moment and ensuring all children are washing or sanitising their hands before coming to and returning from school. We are doing all we can to minimise the spread in school and all your help at home is appreciated. We want to keep all pupils, families and staff safe and healthy.

Digital Devices

If you have not yet completed the form related to the issuing of digital devices to your children please do ASAP. This takes around 5 minutes and the form can be found at the bottom of this post alongside Mrs Hinton’s post.

Digital Devices

Thank you to the families who have already filled out the forms as part of the exciting Midlothian Council scheme to allocate each child  with a learning device. So far, 65% of pupils are enrolled to be allocated devices when the time comes.

Please see below for more information.  There is a form to fill out which takes around 5 minutes.  If possible, please enter the midlothian.education username and password for your child (they know this as they use it to log in to chromebooks at school).  The form can be done without this but it does make the process quicker if you use it.  Every child has been given this!

Parental Acknowledgement Form (must be completed ASAP).

There are answers to frequently asked questions on the Equipped for Learning site, as well as useful contacts should you wish to discuss the scheme further.

We are excited to continue to develop successful learners and positive digital citizens at Loanhead Primary.

Primary 2 Homework 18.1.22

Hello!

The homework for this week has gone home today:

  • Reading: I have included suggestions for reading each night in their yellow reading records. They also read most day in class so please can they bring their reading books in Mondays-Thursdays for this.
  • Spelling: This week we have been looking at i_e with magic e changing the i from a short to long sound. The spelling words for this week are: six     pad     smell     bike     time     smile     prize     like     have     bridesmaid
  • Poetry: As a whole school we are looking at Scottish poetry. Our class poems are Mince and Tatties and Doctor by J K Annand which the children each have a copy of. As part of their homework for this week and into next they can choose and practise one of these poems to perform next week for the class. The best two recitals will get to perform them via our whole school digital assembly on the 28th January. Good luck primary 2 and I hope you enjoy practising your poem performance.

I hope everyone has a lovely week and any questions please feel free to email me on l.lynch2@midlothian.education. If anyone is still to fill in the online digital permission slips for the device rollout please do so as soon as possible. Any problems please just let me know.

Many thanks,

Mrs Lynch

P1 news and information 17.1.22

This week, and next,  we have Outdoor learning on Monday.  Please can children come prepared for this including a spare change of shoes for indoors.

We are consolidating sounds to l this week and listening to sounds we hear in words and trying to write them down.  Children are encouraged to do this before asking for an adult to scribe it for them.  We are also moving onto our next stage of key words if ready, please continue to work on these at home.  If you need additional copies just let me know.

In Numeracy we are looking at subtraction in 10.  Children have home learning to complete on this.

Scots Poems – In January, all Loanhead are given poems to choose from which they then learn at home and recite in class.  Children perform their poems in class (they may ding, use actions, props etc. if they wish) and some may even recite at assembly. This is set as homework for all children at LPS.  This is always a fabulous activity and I love hearing them all. P1 Scots poems

Reading – groups will stay as they were this week but I plan to move some children around over the next couple of weeks.  Please remember that it is helpful if children do not read these in advance.

Thanks

P4 Homework & Update – January 2022

✨ Happy New Year – 2022!✨

Welcome back! We hope you have had a restful holiday and are ready to start the new year.

The school have had to tighten rules around Covid-19 restrictions so pupils will continue to have lunch in the classroom until further notice.

We still have to adhere to safety measures to ensure all children and staff in school are as safe as possible so please follow the FACTS guidance at all times. As in previous months,  it is still extremely important that our classrooms are kept well ventilated so the windows will be open throughout the day. We continue to use CO2 monitors in the classroom which alert us to higher levels and prompt us to open the door. Therefore please ensure that your child wears a warm jumper/fleece as wearing layers is the best way to keep warm. Also it is extremely important that all children come to school with a warm jacket/coat.

Homework

  • 🔡Spelling: homework tasks consist of pupils writing new spelling words in their homework jotter on Wednesday each week. At home they should use:

LOOK   THINK/SAY   COVER   WRITE   CHECK

  • to write out their new spelling words three times in neat columns. They should also complete an activity card which will earn pupils credit card points. Completed spelling homework should be returned the following Monday to be marked and the next spelling pattern will be given for homework on Wednesday each week. All activities are discussed in class so your child should be able to complete these tasks independently or with minimal adult support.
  • 🔢Numeracy & Maths: due to the school focusing on Scottish poetry recitals there will be no written homework handed out but we would encourage pupils to continue to practise their chosen times table.
  • 📚Reading: all pupils have been allocated a reading book which goes home once or twice per week to be read with an adult. It is extremely important that this activity is done at home as only through regular reading practice, will children improve this valuable life skill! Please ensure your child’s reading book is returned to school on the date written on the bookmark. It would also be helpful if you could initial this when you have heard your child read.
  • 👟PE/Health & Wellbeing: this will be a mix of indoor and outdoor activities where possible and to that end, can children please come dressed for outdoor PE on Monday and Wednesday each week.  An outdoor kit will consist of trainers, shorts/jogging bottoms/leggings, t-shirt, fleece and outdoor showerproof jacket. We still don’t have a changing area at present so children will wear their kit for the day.

Additional Information

🧑‍🏫Student Teacher – We would like to extend a warm welcome to Mr Ferguson who will be joining P4 for the next 10 weeks.

🧧Mandarin – P4 will continue to take part in weekly, half hour Mandarin lesson every Wednesday morning. Ms Ling Sun has been providing introductory lessons over the first  few terms which the children will continue to enjoy.

💻Digital Devices – All pupils will received a digital device to use between home and school. For further information on the programme, and to fill out the parental agreement form please see the links below.  The devices will not be allocated for full use until the agreements are filled out.  This is an online form.

All ski equipment is provided by Hillend (boots, helmets, etc.) Please ensure your child knows their show size so they are able to be given correct fitting boots. The bus will leave promptly on Wednesday morning, so it is important that all children arrive on time.

At the end of the month, we will be welcoming Ms Gault, who will be joining us until mid-March for her teaching placement.
