P5 Update!

Congratulations and a huge thank you to all those who helped with our ‘Sustainable Palm Oil’ bake sale today raising funds to sponsor our Orang-utan, Keke.

We raised enough to sponsor him for 3 years as our total was a whopping £100.96!

P5 were over-the-moon and extremely proud as this total was shared during our whole school assembly.

Many thanks,

P5, Mrs Watts & Mrs Roy

P5 Homework & update w/c 05.11.18

Dear Parents/Carers,

Homework

  • Spelling: everyone now seems familiar with the spelling activity cards with pupils enjoying the variety of activities and option to complete as much as schedules permit. All pupils are aware of the homework expectation but I would remind parents to initial or sign homework jotters to prove that red activities have been complete.
  • Numeracy & Maths: pupils have now moved on to the 7 times table and should practise this whenever possible. We are also learning about money, value and written examples of larger numbers. Homework will consist of a mixture of activities to consolidate learning from class work.
  • Reading: pupils have now learned all 5 Literacy Circle roles; Illustrator, Word Wizard, Question Writer, Summariser and Predictor. They have chosen novels and have completed their first LC homework role at home with follow-up book group in class. I will evaluate one group per week over the course of a 6 week period and slips will be glued into jotters. I would please remind pupils to ensure LC homework is completed at the back of their spelling jotters. Good luck with this, you are already off to a flying start.

Tuesday 6th November 2018 Swimming Wk9, 11:00am to 12.30pm

Please ensure pupils bring their full swimming kit and wear weather appropriate jacket and shoes for the walk to the pool. There has been quite a number of children forgetting their kits and having to phone home to have these delivered into school. Please encourage pupils to take responsibility for this and not rely on someone else to organise. Perhaps setting a reminder to save an extra trip to school would help!

PE – Tuesdays will consist of P5 taking part in a block of swimming lessons from 4th Sept to 27th November 2018. The class will walk down to the pool with Mrs Donnelly and will return with Mrs Watts. Mrs Roy will take the class for an hour of PE on Thursdays.

Thursday 8th November 2018 – P4 & P5 music course from Dunedin   Consort (5 weeks)

Friday 16th November 2018Rainforest Assembly

P5 have been working hard throughout their Rainforest topic and would like to show-case their learning to the whole school and after to parents on Friday 16th November. Slips inviting parents/carers to attend on this date at 11:50am for a 20 minute assembly will be sent home this week. Pupils will be able to leave with parents after the assembly but please inform myself before you leave the building.

Friday 23rd November 2018– ‘Sustainable palm oil’ Bake Sale

P5 are in the process of organising a bake sale to raise funds for the adoption of our class Orangutan, Keke and hope to host this to all pupils and teachers during the morning 0f Friday 23rd November. Details to follow.

P5 Homework & update w/c 24.9.18

  • Spelling: the spelling activity cards have been embraced by almost all of the class with pupils enjoying the variety of activities and option to complete as much as schedules permit. All pupils are aware of the homework expectation but I would remind parents to initial or sign homework jotters to prove that red activities have been complete.
  • Numeracy & Maths: pupils have been learning about angle types in class and have begun to practise using protractors to measure angles. The homework this week is a consolidation of class work and consists of identifying angle types (acute, obtuse and right angles).

P5 Homework w/c 10.9.18

Homework

  • Spelling: I look forward to marking the first P5 spelling activity cards this week and setting new spelling pattern words for week 2 (remember complete green & red is optional).
  • Numeracy & Maths: pupils have been learning about 3-D shape in class and became familiar with their chosen shape by making nets. While we set-up spelling and reading strategies, I would ask pupils to carry on with their Times Table practice.

P5 Homework

Spelling Homework

Now your child is in P5, they will be encouraged to have greater independence and responsibility for their own learning. Therefore, spelling homework will be taken home on a Wednesday afternoon and returned the following Tuesday morning. This must be checked by an adult.

Pupils will write their spelling words on a new page of their jotter on Wednesday each week. At home they should use:

LOOK  THINK  COVER  WRITE   CHECK

to write out their new spelling words three times in neat columns. They should also complete a green activity card which will earn pupils 2 credit card points. An optional red activity may be completed for extra practice (and 1 credit card point) but is not mandatory.

Reading Homework

Reading will consist of a variety of activities including Literacy Circles, Novel Studies and individual reading tasks. A library novel will also be chosen by your child.

Maths & Numeracy Homework

Maths/Numeracy homework will be given out on a regular basis to tie in with what has been taught in class. This will be handed out on Wednesday to be returned the following Tuesday morning.

Topic Homework

There will be occasional homework for topic which may include individual research and class talks.

General Expectation

Please ensure homework book is covered. In P5 we expect children to date work, present their work neatly, and use rulers to draw lines.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Roy & Mrs Watts

Welcome to P5!

A warm welcome to P5!

Everyone seems to have got off to a great start as we spent the first week  working through some ‘getting to know you’ and cooperative learning activities.

This week will see the commencement of homework and a trip to the Book Festival, details to follow.

Kind regards,

Mrs Watts & Mrs Roy

P5 Final Week

Here we are on the final week of term! We have reached this date with a mix of emotions and although sad to only have a few days left together, we are also all very excited for the summer holidays and recharging those batteries for another busy year ahead.

To celebrate, P5 have decided upon a Shorts ‘n’ Shades party on the afternoon of Wednesday 27th June with Mrs Watts and a picnic with Mrs Roy on Thursday 28th June. For our Shorts ‘n’ Shades party we have decided to come to school as normal in our school uniform and if we fancy we will change into shorts and our sunglasses for the afternoon. I will provide some refreshments and some pupils have agreed to bring in some treats to share with the class. Please only do so if you have the time and are able to do so.

Formal teaching will still take place during the morning sessions to lunchtime and then pupils will attend various Assemblies throughout the week.

If you could ensure all pupils come to school on Thursday 28th June with a strong carrier bag to take home their jotters, this would be very much appreciated.

Mrs Roy and myself wish you a very happy holiday and great start to P6 when you return. It has been a pleasure getting to know each and every one of the pupils in P5 this year and remember we are just across the atrium if you every need to chat!

Best wishes,

Your P5 Teachers (Mrs Roy & Mrs Watts)
