P5 Homework Guide

Apologies for the delay in getting homework out, unfortunately the school photocopier was out of order last week.

Spelling Homework

Now your child is in P5, they will be encouraged to have greater independence and responsibility for their own learning. Therefore spelling homework will be taken home on a Tuesday afternoon and returned the following Monday morning. This must be checked by an adult.

Pupils will write their spelling words on a new page of their jotter on Tuesday each week. At home they should use:

LOOK  THINK  COVER  WRITE  CHECK

to write out their new spelling words three times in neat columns. They should also complete a green activity card which will earn pupils 2 credit card points. An optional red activity may be completed for extra practice.

Reading Homework

Reading will consist of a variety of activities including Literacy Circles, Novel Studies and individual reading tasks. A library novel will also be chosen by your child.

Maths & Numeracy Homework

Maths/Numeracy homework will be given out on a regular basis to tie in with what has been taught in class. This will be handed out on Tuesday to be returned the following Monday morning.

Topic Homework

There will be occasional homework for topic which may include individual research and class talks.

General Expectation

Please ensure homework book is covered. In P5 we expect children to date work, present their work neatly, and use rulers to draw lines.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Roy & Mrs Watts

2:     Write a paragraph using all your spelling words.

3:     We have now covered all the times tables in Primary 5.  Make up your own game that would help other children to practise their times tables. This could be a board game, an outdoor game or an oral game. You will be given time in class to demonstrate your game and hopefully we can play each other’s games.

4:     As we are doing assembly on Friday, make sure you practise any drama scripts, song words, poems that you have.

As our Assembly is about school camp, all children have been asked to bring ‘outdoor’ wear as their costume and welly boots if they have them. They could bring joggy bottoms, T-shirt, raincoat etc. They will need this on Friday.

Maths

We have been working on Money and Finance in maths over the past few weeks. This week’s task is to help gain an understanding of budgeting and an awareness of costs.

Design your ideal Bedroom

You have an imaginary £800 to spend to design your ideal bedroom.  Write a list of all the items you would buy with your £800. Write the price of each item beside it.  You should use the Internet or shopping catalogues(e.g Next, Argos) to find actual costs. At the end, work out the total amount you have spent and how much you have left from your initial budget.

Optional – You may wish to draw a picture of your dream bedroom showing the items you purchased.
