P3 Homework 16.11.20

Hi everyone,

Hope you had a lovely weekend. Starting this week it will be myself back in class full time so if you need anything just let me know.

Not much to note this week. PE is once again on Wednesday and on Thursday we are getting to join a drumming zoom session in the hall which sounds like loads of fun.

Mrs Cummings has returned to teaching science and we will have her first thing on Monday morning which I know the children will love. They really enjoyed their time with Mrs Cummings and love the science lessons so will be glad to get back to our usual routine.

SPELLING

The children have been split into groups for spelling. Their spelling words are stapled into the blue homework jotter. These words need to be learnt and the children should look out for other words of the same spelling pattern when they are reading.

Please use the grid to help learn the spellings or use LOOK, COVER, WRITE, CHECK.

Red Group: ‘sl, pl and fl’ sound at the end of words.

Words such as: slam, plot, flat

Yellow Group: i_e

Words such as: ice, slice, rice

For this spelling pattern it is essential that children know their vowel sounds a, e i , o, u and letter names , which written phonetically sound like AY, EA, IE, OA ,UE.

We talk about the silent e jumping over the consonant to change the vowel sound. The song below can provide a helpful reminder.

Green Group: Word lists in the homework jotter.

Have a lovely week everyone!

P3 Info/Homework – 9/11/20

Hi all,

Can you believe we are in the second week of November already?! This year has flown by and what an odd year it has been. Hope you all had a lovely weekend and are ready for another week of LPS!

Things to note this week:

-Mrs Cummings will be teaching p3 on Wednesday this week. As of next Monday it will return to myself every day.

-Poppies are available in school all week should you wish to donate. We have a suggested donation of £1.

-We will be observing a two minutes silence on Wednesday in school for Remembrance Day. We of course understand that this can be challenging for some children but we would appreciate it if you could discuss the importance of being respectful during this time with your child.

-This Friday is a dress down day in support of Children in Need, again, any and all donations are greatly appreciated.

-Christmas Cards from p3 WILL be sent home this week. I apologise for the delay, as a result there will be a short extension ’til Thursday for payment

Moving forward we are keen to keep PE outdoors where ever it is possible so can we please ask that ALL children wear comfy clothes and bring warm / waterproof jackets. This of course may change depending on weather as we move into colder months. PE is on Wednesday as per usual.

Can all children also bring a jumper or wear layers as it is a requirement that we keep windows open in the school, as advised, for ventilation. Some children have been saying they are cold as they don’t have jumpers. We do have a small selection of spare jumpers if people do forget but some children don’t like wearing other people’s things.

Can you please make sure your child has a coat, water bottle and snack every day.

Here is the reading and spelling homework for the week:

Numeracy:

Please complete an activity from the grid in the back of the homework jotter.

In the reports that were recently sent out many children were given the target to review their number bonds to 10. It is absolutely crucial that your child knows these number facts off by heart, without the use of manipulatives and counting on fingers . Knowledge of number bonds to ten really does impact on so many other processes and more difficult questions in numeracy as we go through the first level curriculum. Below is a Big Maths Task card which we use in school. Your goal should be for your child to answer each of these questions to demonstrate a good foundational understanding of number.

In school when working on number bonds we often discuss ten frames as seen below:

or part, part, whole diagrams

These are useful visual tools for children to understand how whole numbers can be broken apart.

Topmarks online has many great online games to promote fast recall of number facts:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Search.aspx?Subject=16

However if you would like a pack of work more similar to the examples above or with some number bond games in it to reduce screen time please email me at:

k.ramsay@mgfl.net.

In addition to this many children had number stories as one of their targets. I have included a useful link below about this.

What Are Number Stories? The Essential Guide

I hope some of this is helpful and thank you to all parents who returned their forms in from your child’s report cards already.

Have a fab week everyone!

P7 Homework – Week Beg: Monday 9th November

Hi P7,

Your homework this week includes,

1. Learn your spelling words and complete the tasks.
2. Maths Activity 1 – Fractions Friday. Learn the revision sheet given to you on converting fractions into decimals. (10 minutes would be the minimum I recommend on learning your fractions each week.)
3. Maths Activity 2 – Complete the Mixed Operations exercise on the Google document provided.
4. Continue working on your pupil talk.
5. Learn / prepare notes for our class Remembrance Assembly on Wednesday 11th November.

NOTE: I will provide paper copies for pupils who are having issues accessing Google Classroom. I have reset pupils passwords so they should all be working. If not please remind me on Monday.

Where do I write my answers?
Complete the mixed operations worksheet by editing the google document, or do them on an A4 page, then post a picture of your completed work.

Thanks,

Mr Nelson

🎅CHRISTMAS CARDS – Info and Deadline🎄

I can’t believe it is this time of year, in such strange times it is great to have some excitement.  The children have been busy creating Christmas cards for our annual fundraiser and these should be coming home on 6th Nov.

You can choose the greeting inside, or leave it blank.  It does not have to be Christmas.  We have some Happy New Year cards made or Eid cards made and I like to create Thank You cards for my children to send out after Christmas.  There are many options.

If you wish to order, you must return the order form and design with payment back to school in a polly pocket or sealed envelope.  You can pay cheque, cash or ParentPay.

If you would like a blank order form for siblings etc there will be some spare at the school office.  The cards will be collected by our design company on Thurs 12th, please can you return to school, with payment, ASAP.

This is always a fun fundraiser and the children really enjoy seeing their designs in “real life items”.

Thanks for your support.

🎆 P5 Info – 2.11.20

Hello,

Please ensure that children come to school with a warm, waterproof jacket, snack and water bottle every single day.

🧥Children  may wish to bring an extra jumper in with them as the classroom can get chilly due to having to keep the windows open for ventilation. Please ensure this is clearly labelled with your child’s name.

🎨 Remembrance Day – Wednesday 11th November. P7 and Mr Nelson have asked children to bring in a plain pebble which will be painted with a poppy design and varnished in school. It is hoped that a memorial place for these pebbles will be created within the school grounds. Children can bring these pebbles in this week! Poppies are also being sold from today, it is a suggested donation of £1.

🏃🏼‍♂️P.E is on Wednesday, please ensure children come dressed appropriately for P.E as it will be outside.

We have just started our class novel – Michael Morpurgo ‘Cool’ and we will be completing various literacy activities alongside it.

All Learning Trio’s will be completed and sent home by Friday 6th November. Please fill in and send back in the slip within the attached letter. Thank you.

🎇 P1 News and info – 2/11/2020 🎆

Can you believe November is here? It has been such a strange but quick year!

🍂

This week in P1 we will continue to work on our sounds which are “u” and “l”.  Pupils are learning to use these to build CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) such as cat, rat, mat, hat etc.  This is an activity they can do at home using their green sounds cards.

Reading books for the week are sent home on Monday (Monday: half the book, Tues: other half, Wed: whole book, Thurs: whole book with pictures covered or activity). Please continue to learn the stage 1 and 2 words

Numeracy: We are looking at the number before and after within 10 as well as number pairs that make 10.

Ideas to try at home:

  1. Show me 6 fingers, can you show me it in another way? – can you do it without looking t your fingers/hands in the air?
  2. Can you count back from 7 to 0, can you count to 10 from 4?etc.
  3. Find 10 objects, group them and discuss number stories. e.g. There are 3 leaves and if I add 7 I make 10.

Health

Continuing with people who help us, we are looking at The Emergency Services and how to make a 999 call etc.  We are also looking at harmful and helpful substances.

NOTES:

  • Look out for “report cards” on Tuesday
  • Milk money to be paid by Wednesday
  • Christmas Cards and order forms should be out on Friday
  • Pupils should bring outdoor clothing, layers and gloves etc. If wearing wellies, pupils can bring a change of footwear as long as they have non slip, hard soles and the child can put them on and secure them themselves.🍂
