P6 Info W/B Monday 2nd November 2020

Hi all,

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend, despite the strong winds!

Here is some information about what’s coming up in the next few weeks.

Space ProjectHome Learning – Pupil Talk/Presentation.

  • Children have been asked to research and produce a 5 minute presentation with a follow up activity about Space for week beginning Monday 23rd  November. Children can work solo or in pairs. No-one will be forced to deliver in front of the whole class if especially anxious about this. Children can also have time in school to work on this; it does not have to be produced on a computer. An information letter with more details  will be sent home soon.

Remembrance Day – Wednesday 11th November. P7 and Mr Nelson have asked children to bring in a plain pebble which will be painted with a poppy design and varnished in school. It is hoped that a memorial place for these pebbles will be created within the school grounds.

Please bring in a suitable (smooth) stone/pebble ASAP.

Each class will have the opportunity to buy a poppy so children should bring a donation with them.

Children in Need – P6 have been tasked with organising a little fun event for the whole school on Friday 13th November, which is Children in Need day. Details to follow!

PE – Tuesday – Children should come to school with appropriate waterproof clothing for outdoor exercise and play.

Spelling Homework– as normal

Numeracy – There will be no homework sent home whilst work on the Space presentations is ongoing. However, children have been asked to practise times tables DAILY for 5 -10 minutes. The onus is on them to do this, we cannot do it for them! Children should have brought home their own strategy card for ideas.

Reading – All children will get a new book to read in class this week.

Learning Trio Sheets – These were given out on Friday. Please read, complete the tear off slip and return to me.

Many thanks,

Miss Brunt

SPELLING

The children have been split into groups for spelling. Their spelling words are stapled into the blue homework jotter. These words need to be learnt and the children should look out for other words of the same spelling pattern when they are reading.

Please use the grid to help learn the spellings or use LOOK, COVER, WRITE, CHECK.

Red Group: ‘ng’ sound at the end of words.

Spelling the /ng/ sound Lots of words end with the /ng/ sound after a vowel – ang, ong, ing, ung words. It is always written ng on the end of a word.

Yellow Group: th, ch

If the final ‘ch’ sound comes after a consonant, the ending is -ch. For example: search, church, branch, finch.

When the final ‘ch’ sound follows a one-letter vowel, it’s usually written tch. For example: fetch, catch, pitch, watch, dispatch. As so often with English, there are a few exceptions to the rule, including the words: such, which, rich

Green Group: Word lists in the homework jotter.

Numeracy:

Please complete an activity from the grid in the back of the homework jotter.

PE on Wednesday as usual – please wear comfy clothes and bring warm / waterproof jackets as PE is not allowed to be done indoors.

Many thanks

Kirsteen Ramsay

Parent Council

LPS PARENT COUNCIL

All parents or guardians of children at Loanhead Primary School automatically belong to our PARENT FORUM and potentially can become members.

CURRENT COMMITEE MEMBERS

Chair – Ian Carpenter

Secretary – Lynn Waight

Treasurer – Poppy Kyles

WHO ARE PARENT COUNCIL MEMBERS?

Parents who have attended an Annual General Meeting (which are usually held in September) and have chosen to become a member. Any parent can become a member of the Parent Council.  Members represent all the Parent Forum!

OUR ROLE

To support and create a welcoming environment that is inclusive of all parents and promotes relationships between the school, pupils, parents and carers. We also liaise between the council and parents when required making sure you have all the information and support needed!

FUNDRAISING – What is this for?

Fundraising has always been at the heart of our parent council – not only for the financial benefit- but as a way of engaging with our children and parents in a friendly, fun and personal way that is a fundamental part of your child’s school life.

For many years now we have managed to provide or subsidise many areas including:– Pantomime Transport, P7 Leavers Events & Gifts, Nursery Summer Outings, School Library, IT Equipment, Stationery, Class Projects, Golden Time Activities, Books, Maths Programmes, Sports Day Ice-creams, Summer Fair, Competition prizes and the list could go on…

This can only continue with ongoing support from you!

However, due to recent events fundraising must take a different approach for a while until any physical distancing restrictions are lifted; so for this reason we are very keen to try out any new ideas- for example parents might be able to host their own ‘mini fundraising events’ within their own social bubbles or on a virtual basis. This could be encouraged and supported and would be discussed on an individual basis.

More than ever we look to support our pupils and parents any way we can!

HOW CAN YOU TAKE PART?

We have moved back to regular face to face meetings in the school staffroom, these are about every 4-6 weeks and last around an hour!

Dates for meetings are provided in advance on the School Newsletter, School Website, School Facebook Page or School Bulletin board.

Previous minutes can be found at the bottom of this page and are emailed out to parents.

Please use the grid to help learn the spellings or use LOOK, COVER, WRITE, CHECK.

Rule: The ‘e’ on the end makes the previous vowel say a long sound.

🎃P1 news and info 27/10/20

I hope everyone had a very well rested time off school and are looking forward to the term ahead.  This is always my favourite term and season of the year so I look forward to some fun learning, which will take on a very 2020 twist but enjoyable all the same.

Pupils will come home again with their reading books.  I only update yellow books on a Monday but children should do reading every night

Monday – half the book

Tuesday – the other half

Wed – whole book

Thurs – Whole book with pictures covered.

I am so proud of the P1 because they have worked so hard to learn their sounds and key words in school and at home, thanks for your support with this, it really does make all the difference.

🎃

Halloween – please remember children must not bring in items from home.  We will do some Halloween activities in school this week but no fancy dress etc.

Thanks

Karen Hinton

🍁 P5 Info – 26.10.20

Hello!

I hope you have all had a wonderful and relaxing October holiday.

👩🏻‍💻 I will not be in school until Friday this week so I can only apologise that all the Learning Trio target sheets will be completed and given home by next Friday  (6th November) instead of this coming Friday. Apologises for this.

🏃🏼‍♂️P.E. is on Wednesday afternoon so please come appropriately dressed for this, as the weather is ever changing.

⭐️ ZOOM Assembly on Friday at 11:30AM.

📝 This week may look a little different as I will not be in class with the children until Friday but homework should remain the same with reading and spelling.

I am still available to contact via Google Classroom or email (L.Waller@mgfl.net), if you need anything, then please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Miss Lauren Waller
