This weeks literacy homework will be to read the news article and then use this knowledge to complete the crossword. Highlight or underline the word in the story. Detailed explanation on the sheet.

I will also send home a 2D shape worksheet. Pupils can either cut and stick shapes on or draw them if preferred. There will also be a shape revision sheet to look over as some are finding it hard to remember the names of shapes

Homework due on Wednesday 9th March. Homework will now be collected each Wednesday so I have time to mark.

Reading

Reading homework will be on reading cards. Miss Prior has changed to using cards because the folders and paper are getting tatty. Please pop cards inside reading books as it will protect them a little.

On a Thursday’s we are starting to move on to non-fiction reading work. Today we have been reading newspapers and writing questions for each other to answer.

This week’s homework is a comprehension sheet on a current news story. Please answer this in your jotter in full sentences. Look at the types of questions asked. This will help you in class when you are writing your own questions.

Keep up with 20 minutes of reading every night!

This term we are focusing on the 4 x table, if you could practise this new table as well as the 3x table that would be much appreciated. Remember that the children should know the answers as fast as the learn-its.

If there are any children who need their learnits updated please let me know.

Reading

Red 1- New book- The Great Spaghetti Suit- Read pages 3-9 in class and do activity sheet for class. Read 10-17 for homework.

Pink 1- Dragon Tree- Read the next 5 pages and practice key words.

Pink 2- Read pages 1 and 2 of the party.

Orange- Mr Stofflees and the painted tiger. Read chapter 3 at home and complete a book review for the book.

Blue and Yellow-  Violet comprehension for homework- (toolkit strategies- the main idea and process of elimination)

Purple- Read pages 62-79 for homework.

Green- The Personality Potion- Chapter 6 ‘The truth’ for homework and worksheet for homework.

Please keep learning the Moli Hua song and don’t forget to bring anything about Vikings that you have.

All students have spelling words, you should write your words around the edge of shapes as demonstrated in class.

Also write a short summary of the last book you read at home.

I have created a new challenge on Sumdog- this one is to try and get 600 correct questions in a week. If you don’t have time to access the games every day don’t worry. Do as many as you can.

Spelling

Can you think of four more words to fit your spelling rule? Write a sentence with a connective or for each word you think of.

Reading
