Hello and welcome back! I hope you all had a lovely Easter break.

Primary one will be doing a mini topic on Great Granny’s attic for the next three weeks. We will be exploring how people lived in the past and the differences between the past and nowadays. Children are asked if possible to speak to their grandparents about their childhood and are encouraged to share any stories, photos or items with the rest of the class next Monday 18th April.

Monday

Spelling homework– Children will be given out a list of spelling words this week to practise and learn at home. We will have a small spelling test on Friday.

Phonics homework– Please continue to practise previous sounds at home especially the trickier ones.

Reading homework– New reading books will be handed out today. Please check reading marker for information. Please ensure your child has their reading book with them everyday.

Tuesday

P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

We will be visiting the school library today. Please make sure that library books are returned no later than today. If books are not returned children will be unable to borrow another book. Books borrowed today will be due back on Tuesday 3rd May.

Thursday

P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

Friday

Spelling test

Dress down day!! Bring £1 to raise money for dystonia and come to school dressed down and with ‘crazy hair'(spikes, glitter hairspray etc.)

Monday

Writing homework– Writing homework jotters will be collected today. There will be no writing homework this week.

Phonics homework– This week we are practicing the ‘ue’ sound and long and short vowels. A worksheet with these words will be sent home- please help your child read these words by sounding them out. These sheets should be kept inside the sounds folder.

Please continue to practise previous sounds at home especially the trickier ones.

Reading homework– Reading books will be collected today and reading homework will commence again after the holiday. Please ensure your child has their reading book with them

The circus will be visiting P1 today for a circus skills workshop.

Tuesday

P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

Wednesday

Drumming performance- Parents are invited to come in and watch the children’s drumming performance at 11:15 today.

Children will be going to Loanhead Church for an Easter service this afternoon.

Thursday

Easter activity morning- Children will be joining the primary two class for some Easter activities this morning. Please can each child bring in a boiled egg for egg painting.

P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

Library books are due back today.

School finishes at the normal time for the Easter holidays, there will be no homework over the holidays.

Extreme reading week!

Children will carry a book around school with them every day this week and when a bell rings they will stop what they are doing and read. A second bell will ring to signify the end of reading. Children are welcome to bring a book from home for this or there are plenty books in the classroom they can use.

Reading homework– Please make sure that children have their reading books and markers with them everyday. Please check your child’s reading marker for reading homework. Continue to practise new and old key words.

New key words will be added to your child’s key ring please make sure you practice these words at home so that your child recognises them. It is important that you continue to practice previous key words as well.

Unfortunately the children will not be visiting the school library today so they will be unable to choose a new book, this will be rescheduled for next week.

3.30 – 5.30- Parent drop in session- Come along with your child and let them show you around their classroom and share with you what they have been doing in class. I will be available if you have any questions you wish to ask or issues you wish to discuss.

I was so impressed with the circus puppets that P1 made at home. Well done! They all looked fantastic and the children really enjoyed putting on a puppet show for the rest of the class. Here are some pictures…

Show and tell will continue this week. Please check your child’s show and tell date. Please only allow your child to bring in a toy/ interesting item from home on their day for show and tell.
