Hello all,

Just a quick thank you to any of you who managed to complete the parent survey as part of our school inspection. All your feedback and comments are helpful so thank you for taking the time to do the survey.

JUNK MODELLING

This Thursday Primary 1 are joining their buddies to take part in a STEM challenge. P1 have been reading the Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch and p1 and p6 have designed their own baskets to carry apples by zip wire from class to class across the atrium. They have given careful thought about the strength, durability and weight of their materials. If you have an junk and packaging lying around at home that you would be willing to donate to us to help us build our designs we would be very grateful.

*Foodbank donations for our Friday church service*

After the success of our donations to the food bank last year for the church service, we have decided to organise the same again this year.  We ask that pupils bring a non perishable item for The Food Bank (January) with them to carry down to church on the last day of term.  Items in demand include:

P1 Homework 16/12/19 (CHRISTMAS HOLIDAYS)

Hi all,

The final week of term is here! I have decided to not send home reading homework or book bags this week as I understand how busy you all are with the run up to Christmas and our week in school is equally busy.

I will however send home a festive phonics blending booklet this week if you wish to do any work over the Christmas holidays. This is entirely optional please don’t feel pressured to get it done and take the time to enjoy the holidays with your little ones.

Finally, we will attending church this Friday and are looking for any parents who are available to attend to help us on the walk down. If you are interested can you let me know at pick up or via e-mail at k.ramsay@mgfl.net.

I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas when it comes and a Happy New Year,

Miss Ramsay

A gentle reminder that the cost of the P1/2 Christmas party is £2 and this should be brought into school in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name. The party is in the afternoon on Tuesday 17th December and Santa will be attending at 2:30pm. Please feel free to join us then for a wonderful photo opportunity!

Primary 1 and 2 are also going to be leading a drumming assembly on the morning of Tuesday 17th December (9:00 – 9:30), you are more than welcome to join us for this!

Tuesday 10th December: Christmas Lunches and Christmas Jumper Day.

Homework p1 25.11.19

Our Sounds: An unusual week as we have 3 new sounds this week. Monday-‘ee’ Tuesday- ‘or’ Wednesday -‘z’

Reading books.

I know some groups are getting some books that they have already read. The reason for this is they got these books at the start of the year and are reading much more fluently now so it is good for the children to see the progress they have made and be able to engage with the story now they can decode it. Some children will be changing moving on to stage 3 in the next few weeks.

Chips: New Trainers

Biffs: The Dream

Kippers: The Hedgehog

Floppys: The Hedgehog

REVISION OF KEY WORDS, TRICKY WORDS AND PREVIOUS SOUNDS.

REMINDERS:

Nativity songs to practise at home.

http://dcsss1.weebly.com/year1/christmas-with-the-aliens-songs-lyrics

(We sing them all except Song 2 and 9)

Remember this week is our Christmas Fair. Any last minute donations are welcomed and I hope to see you there on Friday!

p1 homework 18/11/19

Revising all old tricky words.

Reading books.

Chips: The Dream

Biffs: The Babysitter

Kippers: The Apple

Floppys: The Apple

There has been a little bit of confusion over the list of  stage 2 reading words that were sent home with some children. These were the words to be coloured in once your child can recognise it consistently in different contexts 3 times (Everyone, said, got etc). Children can only move on to these once they are reading stage 2 and they can only move on to this stage when they are able to recognise the words: Kipper, Biff, Floppy, Mum, and, a , Chip, the and Dad.

If your child is reading stage 1 books please continue to revise the words above. We are hoping that some children will be moving stages by Christmas.

REMINDERS:

Primary 1 and 2 are still looking for ‘nearly new’ toys which we can sell on at the Christmas Fair. All donations are appreciated.

P1 and 2 have also began to create our props for the nativity. We are looking for large bits of cardboard or cardboard boxes.

We are progressing really well with nativity. Miss Waller and I are so impressed with how the children are picking up songs, directions and lines. We truly appreciate your continual support with this at home.

Hope you all have a lovely week,

Miss Ramsay
