P2 Homework W/B 22.1.18

Hi all,

Let’s hope that this week is a bit warmer than last week although the snow must have been great fun for the children!

Homework this week:

Spelling – List 21 ‘igh’

Reading – Please check book bags as usual for reading book updates and there is also now an extra week to practise the poems sent home last week.

Numeracy – there’s no set homework this week but, in class,  we will be working on place value to 100 and ‘bridging decades’ which follows on naturally from ‘bridging 10’. So, for example, 50 + 12 is the same as saying 50 + 10 + 2.

PE is on Wednesday and Thursday.

Thanks for your support,

Miss Sara Brunt

P2 Homework and News W/B 15.1.18

Hi all,

This month, the whole school is having a Scottish focus. We have been looking at where Scotland is, where Loanhead is and what makes us ‘Scottish’. This week, we’ll be reading and writing Scots poems, learning some traditional Scots vocabulary and making a class dictionary about this. Children will all choose one Scots poem to take home to read and learn from memory, if possible. Children will be encouraged to then add expression as they try and recite their poem out loud. We’ll work on this in class but must practise at home too.  I’ll be choosing two confident, expressive pupils to perform their poem at a Scots Poetry assembly the following week.

Therefore, I won’t send home a new reading book for anyone this week but keep reading through current book to the end please.

Spelling – List 20 ‘ea’

NumeracySumdog Challenge – ‘Addition within 20’ There’s a target of 250 this week as I really want the children to become quick at working out these sums. We have been working on various strategies to do this. Children have been talking about the best strategy that suits their thinking.

Money Monday will focus on change from 20p. Fraction Friday will focus on halving even ( and odd) numbers.

PE – Wednesday and Thursday

Library – Please return any books from 2017! Children may choose a new book this Friday.

Thanks for your support,

Miss S Brunt

P2 Homework W/B Tuesday 9th January 2018

Hi all,

Happy New Year to you all and many, many thanks for all the wonderful gifts I received for Christmas. Here’s looking forward to another busy and fruitful term.

This month, our whole school will be studying Scotland and so, will be reading, writing, singing and dancing with a Scottish flair! If anyone has any favourite Scottish children’s authors/books or poems you’d like to share, please send these in.

Reading– All children will be given a new book this week, hopefully Tuesday or Wednesday.

Spelling – unless otherwise indicated, the next spelling list is List 19 ‘ay’.

Numeracy – please revise number pairs to 10 eg. 1 and 9, 2 and 8, 3 and 7 etc. This week we’ll look at ‘bridging 10’ so, for example:

6 + 8 is the same as 6 + 4 (10) +4 = 14

7 + 6 is the same as 7 + 3 (10) +3 = 13

PE returns on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Please remember to bring kits back after their holiday wash! Don’t forget indoor shoes/gym shoes!

Thank you,

Miss Sara Brunt

P2 Homework W/B 4.12.17

Nativity – We have a very busy week of rehearsals ahead of us with our first performance to the school on Friday! So much still to do but it’ll all be worth it in the end! Remember, the performance for families is on Monday 11th December. If you were asked to provide a costume/outfit can you please send this in ( in a labelled bag) ASAP.

Xmas Party – Thanks to all who have paid £1 towards the Xmas party and  there’s still plenty of time to hand this in.

Athletics and PE – will be on Wednesday and Thursday respectively ( though this may have to be the last week for athletics).

School Fair – It was great to see so many people at the fair and we managed to raise over £1500 profit for the school. Thanks!!

Homework –  Reading – Please continue with any reading homework as highlighted on the post-it notes in books. I may not be able to hear reading as often as I usually do due to the rehearsals this week so please support at home.

Spelling – We have finished the current phonics list and so I’ll send home ‘tricky word’ lists on Tuesday to be completed over 2 weeks ( there will be no homework at all in the final week).

Numeracy – Well done to those who took part in last week’s Sumdog challenge. I won’t set any numeracy homework now until the new term in 2018 but take any chance you can to practise arithmetic in everyday situations with your child – counting out, using money, playing board games at Christmas, using an Advent calendar and so on…

That’s all for now…I think!!

Thanks for your support,

Miss S Brunt

P2 Homework W/B 20.11.17

**Dates for Diary**

Nativity 2017 – slight amendment*

P1 and P2 will be performing ‘Lights, Camel, Action!‘ on Monday 11th December at 2pm. Each pupil can invite 3*  members of his/her family to come and watch. More info will follow about parts, lines, costumes etc.

Christmas Fair

The Christmas Fair will be on Friday 1st December from 12:30pm. Once again, P1 and P2 will organise the toy stall so if your child has any unwanted toys in good condition, please send these in. Thanks in advance!

Homework this week

Spelling – List  u– e. Magic ‘e’.  This turns a short sounding vowel into a long sounding vowel. Children will be taught a little memory aid: ” The  e at the end turns the ‘u’ into a ‘you’ sound. This particular rule can prove tricky!!

Reading – as normal. Please send book bags in daily. Children should practise reading daily.

NumeracyNumber Tennis– please play this game with your child- it’s free and needs no resources! Pairs to ten; you say 6 and the child should say 4. You say 5 and the child should say 5.  You say 7 and the child should say 3…and so on! The aim is for instant recall.

EXTENSION TO THE ABOVE GAME –

  • If you know your bonds to 10, then try bonds to 9 by subtracting one from the second number of the pair.
  • If you know your bonds to 10, then try bonds to 11 by adding one to the second number of the pair.
  • If you know your bonds to 10, try ‘decade’ bonds to 100 by pairing up 30 and 70,  60 and 40,  50 and 50 etc…

PEWednesday (Athletics) and Thursday (PE with Mrs Duncan). The athletics sessions have been going very well with Craig and he has been working P2 very hard!

Topic – We have been reading ‘The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark’ and should read more chapters this week. Our student teacher Miss Jeffcott has many more fun activities planned covering astronomy ( constellations) plus light and shadows in science and art. Sadly, this is Miss Jeffcott’s final week and we thank her for her hard work and wish her good luck for the future.

Road Safety Week – Hi-viz walk – The whole school is participating in a road safety awareness event on Thursday afternoon. Can children wear any bright, reflective clothing they have to go on a short walk, promoting ‘Be Bright, Be Seen’.
