P2 Homework W/B 11.9.17

Hi there,

Just to begin with a reminder that this week is a short week as it ends with the ‘September Weekend’– so  school finishes on Thursday at 3:15pm and resumes on Tuesday 19th September.

Homework-

Spelling – List 3 ‘th‘ . Everyone is working very hard at home and handing in some great spelling homework- well done! Please try to complete spelling homework by Thursday if possible.

Reading – Please send your child’s reading folder in every day. Please also check the ‘post-it’ note sent home with each book for updates.

Numeracy – On Wednesday, a sheet of sums will be sent home. This has ‘+1 and -1’ sums on it. Please cut this sheet up into individual flash cards and practise with your child so that they become very quick at knowing +1/-1. Also use the language ‘ What is one more/one less than’. If your child has mastered this, ‘up-level’ it by saying ‘Okay, if 4 + 1 =5, what is 14 +1, what is 54 + 1 , what is 94 + 1’ and so on…

Topic– We have been thinking about the current UK harvest but also about where our food comes from. We had Fyffes bananas during the week and watched a video about the production journey these bananas take to get to our shores.

A request…..could you possibly check labels of food products you are using this week and send the labels in with ‘Country of Origin’ on? We can use these labels to plot on our large world map where their food has come from!

PE– Wednesday and Thursday

Afternoon snack – some parents have requested that P2 children have an extra wee snack for the longer afternoons. We do have afternoon fruit from Tuesdays onwards, which we cut into portions and this usually lasts us a couple of days but if you want to send something extra in, please feel free to. I would suggest something like a small packet of raisins, a small piece of fruit or a small biscuit.

Thanks for your continued support,

Miss Brunt

P2 Homework W/B 4.9.17**Updated**

Hi everyone,

Here is the plan for the week ahead.

Photographer will be in school on Wednesday to take pictures of individuals and siblings.

Spelling – Thank you to everyone who completed their homework and handed it in on Friday! An impressive start to P2! Please note that children don’t have to do every written task from Grid B ( unless he/she really wants to!) This week’s sound focus is ch so please study List 2. Jotter work to be handed in on Friday please.

Reading – Every child got a new book last week and we’ll soon find our rhythm with reading days. I’ll try and see/hear each group by the end of Tuesday. Please check book bags daily for updates. I tend to use Post-it notes for this.

Numeracy – I won’t send home any numeracy homework just yet but just for your information we have already been working on:

  • odd/even numbers
  • add and subtract up to 10 and beyond
  • coin recognition to £2 and change from 10p ( We have ‘Money Mondays’)
  • counting up in 2s, 5s and 10s and I note that some still need to practise counting back from 20 in ones.
  • revising halves during ‘Fraction Friday’.
  • problem solving using numbers in real life scenarios.

This week, we’ll keep revising the above and also focus on adding one/taking away one.

Music– children get a music session with Mrs Callaghan every Monday.

PE – will be on Wednesday with Mrs Duncan and on Thursday with myself.

Topic – P1 and P2 hope to collaborate on a Harvest theme soon so information will follow over the next couple of weeks.

That’s all for now,

Thanks for your support,

Miss Brunt

P2 Homework W/B 28.8.17

Events and Homework this week:

Wednesday and Thursday – PE

WednesdayMeet the Teacher3:30 – 4pm. A chance to drop in with your child, see the classroom and have an informal chat.

Homework-

Everyone has reading and spelling homework. I have sent home work in a clear homework bag unless your child handed in their green folder from last year.

Spelling – I have sent home a sheet with SIX weeks worth of spelling lists. I have dated the top of each list, clearly indicating when each one is to be learned. This week, the sound focus is ‘sh‘. I have also sent home a grid of spelling activities which are basically online games, jotter work and quick revision games which need nothing. If you cannot access the spelling games online, do not worry as your child will play these games in school ICT time anyway. Use the other choices to practise the spelling list.

When will my child get a spelling test?

We ‘test’ spelling through the dictation of sentences and so, the dictation of List 1 will take place next week. However, I would like the spelling jotters handed in for me to mark on Fridays.

Reading

Everyone gets a new book this week, following on from where they left off in Primary One 🙂 . I’ll put in markers to guide you as to how much to read and when.

Thanks for your support; hope to meet you on Wednesday.

Miss Brunt

Welcome to P2 W/B 22.8.17

Welcome back everyone! I hope you all had a lovely summer!

In this first week back, there will be no homework; we’ll just take time to settle in and find our P2 feet! But please do check your child’s bag every day for letters/info etc.

**CHANGES TO SCHOOL DAY TIMES**

Just to remind you that P2 will now be in school each day until 3:15pm Mon-Thurs and 12:25pm on a Friday. Start time of 08:50 remains. Please collect your child from the P2 classroom outer door which faces out towards the school reception. This is to ensure that P2 children are collected safely as, with all pupils now coming out at the same time, the playground may become very busy and hectic.

PE– Children require a full PE kit in school ( t-shirt, shorts and gym shoes). PE days will be on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

This week, we’ll be learning new routines, working together to create a class charter and talking about ‘learning powers’ – strategies we use to enhance learning.

Every week, homework and news will appear on our P2 page and a printed copy of this will also be sent home. I do try to have the web page updated by Sunday evenings.

Thank you,

Miss Brunt

P2 News and Information W/B 26.6.17

It’s the final week in P2! The time seems to have disappeared so fast this year! So, this means that we’ll take time this week to ‘wrap’ things up, return work home etc.

Events this week:

Beach Party – on Thursday we’re going to use the hall for  ‘beach party’ games. Children can wear ‘beach wear’ clothes if they like ( basically shorts and T-shirts- not swimming costumes!) Children could just wear their PE kit also- this is just a fun, informal event and there’s no need to bring/buy anything special for it. We’ll follow the games with some juice and fruit kebabs and have a ‘picnic’. If anyone has a beach towel or small beach blanket for us to sit on, can you lend us this please. Many thanks.

Homework: Drum roll….there is no homework this week! However, please finish reading any books from last week- I’ll collect these all back in on Wednesday. A big thanks to parents and extended family members who helped support children with their homework this year – it really does make a difference. Please encourage your child to read over the holidays.

Plastic bag – We’ll start to empty trays and take work down from walls and will send most of this home so can all children bring a strong carrier bag on Monday. Some jotters, if they have lots of blank pages left, I will pass onto Mr Buchan to continue using. Thank you.

Library books – final call for library book returns. Please hand back in if not already done so.

End of term – School finishes on Friday at 12 noon.

Finally, I’d like to say a big thank you to all at home for your fantastic support this year. As I said, it’s been a very quick year but a very enjoyable one with a super P2 class. I will miss them lots next year. I  hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe summer.

Thank you,

Miss Brunt

P2 Homework W/B 19.6.17

Well, we’re getting close to the final countdown. What a quick academic year it has been! As such, this will be the last week of homework! Image result for celebrating

Reading– we’ll finish up on the books we have had and tie up loose ends so just check the books bags daily as normal. (Although some may still get a final new book this week)

Spelling – Thanks to all who completed their ‘common word’ list last week. There’s a new one coming home this week, on Tuesday.

Numeracy – there’s no new task. I’m going to take the time to look back on all the Sumdog challenges over the course of P2 and assign points to the top ten each week on the leaderboard and work out the top three players overall for awards. Please note that all children have had access to Sumdog in school time as well as at home so no-one has been left out.

Topic– we are doing a ‘whirlwind’ tour of The Sea as our final topic. We may finish next week on an ‘in school beach party’– details to follow.

Thanks to Rudy’s Granddad ‘Tam’ who came to speak to the class about his memories of being a miner in Loanhead as part of our Local Study topic.  This is such an important part of Loanhead’s history and legacy and it’s so important that the children realise the connections and risks these brave people took in order for us all to have coal. Thanks Tam!! The children loved hearing your memories and were very engrossed!

Library books – please start to return any library book.

Work home– can you send kids in with a sturdy plastic bag this week so we can start to send P2 work home. Thanks.

Thank you,

Miss Brunt
