Primary 2 Homework 8.2.22

Hello,

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. The homework for this week has gone out today and includes their reading book with a recommended reading schedule.

The sound we are practising this week is “wh” and the words to practise are:

did     cut     twin     whale     wheel

white     whisper     what     when     whenever

We will practise reading in school Wednesday and Thursday this week so please can the children come into school with their reading books on these days. The reading books this week may stay home over the holiday and be handed in on Monday 21st February after the February break.

Many thanks for all your support,

Mrs Lynch

Unfortunately I am off sick this week, the class will be covered by the following teachers: Monday – Mrs Falconer,  Tuesday – Miss Brunt then Mrs Falconer,  Wednesday – Miss Brunt, Mrs Wallace and then Miss Brunt, Thursday – Mrs Caldwell and Friday Mrs Falconer.  (Obviously this could change and I may be back towards the end of the week).

WEDNESDAY’S P.E. HAS MOVED TO THURSDAY THIS WEEK.

Exciting News for this week – Every child will receive their own digital device. There are some training sessions to take place and procedures to be sorted out before the children will be bringing them home. We expect that children will be able to bring them home at some point soon after the February break.

There is no spelling homework this week.

Reading – please check their reading books.

I hope you all have a lovely half term break.

Kind regards,

Lisa Cumming

P6 Week Beginning 6.2.22

Hello,

Apologises, I completely forgot to upload to the website last week!

We welcomed Ms Gault, a student teacher, into our class on Monday and she will be with us until the middle of March. Ms Gault will begin to teach the class for two and a half days this week, and the week after the February holiday. After this, she will be fully teaching the class for three weeks.

Some very exciting news!! On Monday morning the children will receive their Chromebooks, these will begin to go home with the children sometime after the February break. Please can all children bring in their google logins (they are laminated on green card) on Monday, so they are able to log in.

P.E. is on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. I know the class have Skiing on Wednesday too, but they can bring a change of clothes if the wish to get changed for P.E. This change is only for this week.

We have Skiing on Wednesday, the children are really enjoying and I can see huge improvements each week. All children must bring gloves!

Mandarin with Ms Sun on Wednesday afternoon.

On Friday, we have our ZOOM assembly at 11:30am with Mr Duffin.

Children can receive a hot lunch from the dining hall but parents must purchase this on parent pay. We have the menus in class so children know what choices they have each week.

Homework

Reading: Children receive reading homework every night (Mon-Thurs) and it is so important that children complete this. The more they read (especially out loud) the more fluent and confident they become. Please sign/initial your child’s reading record to evidence it has been completed.

Spelling: Children will copy their words on Monday morning and they will have a task to complete on Google Classroom, including writing their words twice in cursive in their jotter. Please ensure your child writes in cursive.

Numeracy: The children will have a numeracy task on Google Classroom to complete which will have a mixture of questions.

As always, spelling and numeracy homework is handed out on Monday and is due in on Friday.

Just a little reminder that school closes at the usual time of 12:25pm on Friday and pupils return on Monday 21st February at 8:50am.

I wish you all a restful and relaxing February break.

If you need anything, please never hesitate to get in touch.

P7 Info W/B 7th January 2022

Hi all,

🎽 PE  – Tuesday and Thursday – please come to school dressed for PE outdoors. Remember to bring a water bottle for hydration.

***Lunches***-  P7  can once again order a hot meal from the school canteen. Please purchase via ParentPay beforehand.  I have displayed the three week menu in class so the children can look up what’s for lunch by themselves.

Alternatively, children can bring in their own packed lunch from home to eat.

💻Chromebook Rollout! Exciting news! All pupils in P7 will receive their very own Chromebook on Monday morning. However, there are some procedures to go through this week with the children so it is looking likely that the devices will not be sent home until after the February break.

We will be increasing our use of Google Classroom both in class and at home, so watch this space!

🍎😊 Health Week 2 – We didn’t quite get through all the work last week so will continue this theme for another few days. This Health Week will focus on mental wellbeing. We will explore ways to regulate our emotions using discussions and mindfulness activities. We will also learn more about substance misuse and discuss issues around this.

📚Reading – We are reading The Diary of Anne Frank. This is part of our WW2 studies and will also incorporate  some learning about Judaism.

👨   Mr Forbes , a student teacher,  continues his placement with us on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Mr Forbes has already started a music project with the class which should be exciting and lots of fun! Mr Forbes will have increasing (supervised) responsibility for teaching P7 as the weeks go on.

🏠Homework :

📝Spelling –  Please hand in completed work on Friday. Please ensure all writing is neat.

🧮 Maths/Numeracy – My apologies – I did not manage to give out the numeracy task on Thursday so I will give this out on Monday. This week we will continue to  study number patterns/relationships and rotational symmetry.

That’s all for now,

Thank you,

Miss Brunt

⭐⭐⭐Congratulations to OT who represented P7 in our annual Scots Poetry Recital and took top prize within the upper atrium! Many thanks to him and all the other pupils who worked so hard to learn their poems and were brave enough to recite in front of the class! Well done! ⭐⭐⭐

That’s all for now,

Thank you,

Miss Brunt

P5 Week Beginning 28/01/22

Dear Parents and Carers,

I wanted to say how impressed I was with the children’s efforts at learning a poem in Scots language. They all did so well and clearly worked hard with it. What was lovely to see was that all the children stood in front of the class and had a go, this is difficult to do and I know some children found it particularly hard. We have been talking about ‘trying new things’ and ‘going out of our comfort zone’ – most of the children were out of their comfort zone this week – they should all be very proud of themselves as I am of them!

This week: READING please see reading books and jotters. I am gradually introducing reading tasks to the groups – these are in their specific reading jotter.

SPELLING: I am changing the day that I hand out spelling – this is because of the change in P.E. day. Homework will come home on a Tuesday now but is not due back until the following Monday. If it is completed then it can be handed in before if they prefer to do it before the weekend. Their spelling dictation will still be on the Friday so they do need to have been learning the words through the week.

P.E. Monday and Wednesday

MANDARIN: Wednesday – the children have been learning about Chinese New Year with Miss Sun. Also learning to write Chinese characters using traditional brush pens and holding them the correct way.

HEALTH WEEK: This is the second of our three health weeks. Our focus this week is on mental health. We will be looking at positive friendships and exploring substance misuse. As a class we have a daily positive affirmation which we discuss and share examples of.  In P.E. Miss Simpson will be doing some yoga at the end of each session.

SCHOOL LUNCHES: This week we will return to eating in the lunch hall. Children will go outside at 12.30pm and be called in by a bell to eat and then be able to go back outside if they have finished by 1.15pm.

Many thanks,

Lisa Cumming   l.cumming@midlothian.education
