P5 Week Beginning 16/05/22

This week in P5 (16/05/22)

Some of you may have seen or heard about a MISS MACHETTO – she is a student teacher and will be with us until the end of term.

WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK

I just wanted to let you all know how well the class did at camp. Everyone took part in everything, they had a real ‘HAVE-A-GO’ attitude. It was lovely to see the children in a different environment facing different challenges.
I could not have been prouder of the class…their behaviour and manners were super!
As part of WALK TO SCHOOL WEEK on TUESDAY we are having HAPPY SHOESDAY  – can children please wear a pair of shoes that make them happy! These should not be high heels, heelies, shoes with studs on the bottom or roller skates. Please make sure they are suitable to wear at school. If they want to wear slippers they need to bring a pair of outdoor shoes.
On Friday at 10.00am the whole school are doing a walk along the safe route and back to school. P5, 6 and 7 will walk with their buddies
FRIDAY: It is French Friday this week at school. We are asking children to wear the colours of the French flag if they would like to (red, white and blue). A couple of the classes are leading a French assembly for us. Please avoid fancy dress costumes in these colours as they may not be suitable to do the school walk in.

Also on Friday at 10.00am the whole school are doing a walk along the safe route and back to school. P5, 6 and 7 will walk with their buddies.
Pupil Talks – Some children will be doing their pupil talk this week and some next week. Your child has been told when their talk is.

Spelling – Please see spelling jotter. Children can complete it in their jotter or on Google Classroom. If they complete it in their jotter could they try and take a photo and upload it to Google Classroom. This helps to build their IT skills.
Numeracy – please continue with times tables and complete the fraction sheet (to be handed in on Friday 20th)
Reading – please see reading books.
CHROMEBOOKS – The class will not need their chrome books in school on Wednesday or Friday this week.
Kind regards,
Lisa Cumming   l.cumming@midlothian.education

Dear Parents and Carers,

Last week’s outdoor learning session on Monday was enjoyed by everyone immensely, it helped that we had such beautiful weather. We have our final outdoor learning session on Monday – hopefully the rain stays off.

Chromebooks.

It’s great to see that everyone is remembering to bring them daily. Please encourage your child to remember to charge them at home.

Please send in indoor shoes if you can and haven’t already done so…it really helps the carpets. Thank you to those who have sent them in.

Many thanks,

Lisa Cumming                                                       l.cumming@midlothian.education

P5 Week Beginning 14/03/22

Dear Parents and Carers.

Thank you all for your contributions for the Ukraine collection. We will know the final amount later this week but on Friday at assembly it was just over £5oo – a wonderful amount to raise!

Last week we enjoyed learning about the skeleton, the brain and the lungs. This was delivered live from the Glasgow Science Centre. The children were all practising their new skill of ‘sketchnoting’ whilst watching these live sessions. Sketchnoting is a method of drawing and writing to take notes to help with learning.

Homework: Reading and spelling please see reading books and homework jotter. Also please continue to work on times tables with your child.

Now that Chromebooks are coming home can I please ask you to remind your child to charge it when necessary and to ensure that they are brought to school every day. All children have been given guidance about transporting their Chromebooks.

Bike Workshop

On Friday 18th March (12.00pm – 2.00pm)   all children can bring their bikes to school and have them checked over for safety and possibly some minor repairs undertaken.

OUTDOOR LEARNING

On Monday 21st and Monday 28th March P5 will be doing outdoor learning led by Miss Simpson. a letter has been sent home today about this. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately and has wellington boots on. Also please send a change of clothes.

As always, if you have any questions then please get in touch.

Kind regards,

Lisa Cumming                                                     l.cumming@midlothian.education

P5 Week beginning 07/03/22

Dear Parents and Carers,

INDOOR SHOES: Please can I remind you that your child should now be bringing a pair of indoor shoes (suitable to do P.E. in) to change into at school. Our carpets have really suffered and it costs a lot to get them cleaned.

It has been lovely to see so many parents this week to have our Trio meetings. I look forward to speaking to the rest of you this week.

Homework: Please see reading books and spelling jotters as usual.

I have spoken to many of you about the importance of your child learning their times tables for rapid recall. Please encourage your child to work on this and support them by asking them questions in and out of order whenever you can. Little and often is a good way to approach it.

Last week two groups of children were involved in doing some gardening around the school with a couple of parent volunteers. This week the rest of the class will have the opportunity to take part in gardening.

Kind regards,

Lisa Cumming  l.cumming@midlothian.education

🇺🇦 DRESS DOWN FOR UKRAINE 💛💙 11.3.22

Our school community have been desperate to do something to help Ukraine. 🇺🇦.

We have decided to have a dress down day on Friday and ask everyone to wear something blue and yellow if possible. We ask that everyone brings a cash donation too. We are donating money to a charity that matches your donations, so anything we raise will be doblubled. More info will be given when donations are in.

Thanks for your support

P5 Week Beginning 28/02/22

Dear Parents and Carers,

The children really enjoyed the drumming session on Thursday using Samba drums and other percussion instruments.

This week please check your child’s bag for the letter for the trio appointment. If the time is not suitable please get in touch. Anyone who has requested a telephone appointment will be given a date and time for the following week (week beginning 7/3/22). As before it is one adult allowed, your child must attend with you and a mask must be worn. Please come to the external class door.  I look forward to seeing you. If you are having a telephone appointment the form will be sent home with you and your child should be present during the call.

We have noticed that the carpets are suffering from using outdoor shoes in school. Please could all children bring a pair of shoes to change into. These shoes should be suitable to use in P.E. (velcro or laced trainers) and to be left at school (as they were before COVID).

Homework:

Please see reading books as usual.

Spelling words will be in spelling jotters.

Numeracy – Please continue to work on times tables.

On Thursday 3rd March. It is World Book Day, every child brought a letter home on Thursday about this. Your child can dress as a character from a book. They should also bring their favourite book to school to share with the class.

Kind regards,

Lisa Cumming     l.cumming@midlothian.education
