*P1 HOME LEARNING*

To P1 parents,

HAPPY NEW YEAR. I cannot believe we are back here, not the new year we hoped for. I miss all the children, so fingers crossed remote learning is a short term thing.

I am just sending a quick message to let you know that activities and more information will be posted on Seesaw on Monday morning. I hope to do a wee video for the class to say hello and explain a bit about what learning may look like.

I will also message parents individually with sumdog passwords etc incase these are lost from last year.

I will be in school teaching for a few days a week as well so might not be instantly available so thanks for your support in advance.

I did remote learning with my 2 last time and it can be stressful but also a real bonding time. Some days will work well and others will be a right off and that is OK. Every household is different, how you approach this needs to work for your family. If you miss some activities and cannot catch up, that’s OK!

The work will be a lot interactive but you can do it on paper and take a photo within the assignment and send it to me. We used SewSaw last term to prepare for this and we will all be learning together.

Joe Wicks is back on Monday at 9am on his youtube channel. This is something the whole school tried to do last time and can be a great start to your day, especially if everyone gets involved.

As for a timetable, it is about what works for you. I can suggest but remember, remote learning is flexible.

Each day there will be literacy, numeracy activities as well as health and some Scottish topic work.

Enjoy your weekend of snowy fun x

🍂Primary 1 news and info 23/11/2020 🌈

The end of November is near….I cannot believe it. 🍁

🌟This week we are shaking things up a bit in P1 – Rearranging the seating in the classroom and creating new reading groups for everyone.

🔔We are also beginning to “rehearse” a simple Nativity performance that I hope to film and put together…somehow (watch this space). We will be doing this while sticking to restrictions and guidance so unfortunately we are limited in activities this year –  but I have had my creative hat on.

📚 Reading – pupils have reading to do each night, this is essential.  You should encourage them to sound out the sounds in each word and say them if they meet words they are unsure of (e.g. h-a-t is hat).  Each group has stage 2 or 3 words to learn, this is really important for progression through the stages.

📊 Maths/Number- This week we will be looking at: Counting to 20, ordering numbers and counting backwards as well as identifying amounts in a ten frame. (playing dominoes and games like snakes and ladders with 2 dice is a great way to support this).  We are also continuing to look at data handling through tally marks and bar charts.

🌈PROUD CLOUD ☁️ – Have a look on Seesaw for info on “proud cloud” help I have asked for.

💻  SEESAW ACTIVITIES – There is a CVC (Consonant, vowel, consonant) word activity (suggested day-Tuesday) and a count and match activity (suggested day-Thursday).  Digital learning is quicker, more eco friendly and often involves less writing, which can be off putting for children.  If you do require a paper copy just let me know and I can print it.  If there are issues with opening these activities please get in touch as sometimes I do not notice faults right away.

Thanks,

Mrs H

🎅CHRISTMAS CARDS – Info and Deadline🎄

I can’t believe it is this time of year, in such strange times it is great to have some excitement.  The children have been busy creating Christmas cards for our annual fundraiser and these should be coming home on 6th Nov.

You can choose the greeting inside, or leave it blank.  It does not have to be Christmas.  We have some Happy New Year cards made or Eid cards made and I like to create Thank You cards for my children to send out after Christmas.  There are many options.

If you wish to order, you must return the order form and design with payment back to school in a polly pocket or sealed envelope.  You can pay cheque, cash or ParentPay.

If you would like a blank order form for siblings etc there will be some spare at the school office.  The cards will be collected by our design company on Thurs 12th, please can you return to school, with payment, ASAP.

This is always a fun fundraiser and the children really enjoy seeing their designs in “real life items”.

Thanks for your support.

🎇 P1 News and info – 2/11/2020 🎆

Can you believe November is here? It has been such a strange but quick year!

🍂

This week in P1 we will continue to work on our sounds which are “u” and “l”.  Pupils are learning to use these to build CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant) such as cat, rat, mat, hat etc.  This is an activity they can do at home using their green sounds cards.

Reading books for the week are sent home on Monday (Monday: half the book, Tues: other half, Wed: whole book, Thurs: whole book with pictures covered or activity). Please continue to learn the stage 1 and 2 words

Numeracy: We are looking at the number before and after within 10 as well as number pairs that make 10.

Ideas to try at home:

  1. Show me 6 fingers, can you show me it in another way? – can you do it without looking t your fingers/hands in the air?
  2. Can you count back from 7 to 0, can you count to 10 from 4?etc.
  3. Find 10 objects, group them and discuss number stories. e.g. There are 3 leaves and if I add 7 I make 10.

Health

Continuing with people who help us, we are looking at The Emergency Services and how to make a 999 call etc.  We are also looking at harmful and helpful substances.

NOTES:

  • Look out for “report cards” on Tuesday
  • Milk money to be paid by Wednesday
  • Christmas Cards and order forms should be out on Friday
  • Pupils should bring outdoor clothing, layers and gloves etc. If wearing wellies, pupils can bring a change of footwear as long as they have non slip, hard soles and the child can put them on and secure them themselves.🍂

🎃P1 news and info 27/10/20

I hope everyone had a very well rested time off school and are looking forward to the term ahead.  This is always my favourite term and season of the year so I look forward to some fun learning, which will take on a very 2020 twist but enjoyable all the same.

Pupils will come home again with their reading books.  I only update yellow books on a Monday but children should do reading every night

Monday – half the book

Tuesday – the other half

Wed – whole book

Thurs – Whole book with pictures covered.

I am so proud of the P1 because they have worked so hard to learn their sounds and key words in school and at home, thanks for your support with this, it really does make all the difference.

🎃

Halloween – please remember children must not bring in items from home.  We will do some Halloween activities in school this week but no fancy dress etc.

Thanks

🍂 Primary 1 – 8th October 2020 🦔

With just over a week to go until the October break I cannot believe how fast time has flown. 🍂

Reading groups are heard almost daily but groups timings are limited to just 10-15 minutes in school with close teacher contact so it is essential that pupils keep reading their books daily in school.

Reading journals are updated on Mondays and that will be the only day that I collect them all in. 📒

I have handed out the Stage 1 words (pink) and stage 2 words (yellow) today because I realise that adding the words each time we get a new book is perhaps not the best idea in the current climate.  These words should be learned at sight and should  be learned in order to progress through the ORT scheme.  These are for home use so do not need to be brought in. 🟥 🟨

On Friday I will hand out the sounds that we will have covered by the October holiday.  In class each day we go through the sounds and are not word building using these.  e.g. asking the children to lay out the sound cards to make a certain word and then sound it out.  This activity is extremely useful for confidence building and would ideally be completed alongside reading at home. 🟩

Can I also take this opportunity to ask that the Phonics booklet that pupils were handed out in week 2 is completed and up to date.

I will begin target setting with pupils next week and their target sheets will come home once they have had their chat with me.

As always, thanks for your support

🌈22nd September – P1 News and information⭐️

🍎I hope everyone is well rested after their long weekend, I think everyone needed at least one ling lie, I know I did.🍏

This week our sounds are h and r, you can find the jolly phonics short songs clips on youtube, I am sure the children would love to perform them for you.

🎯Please remember to complete the Phonics homework book each week – this should be completed to r by this Friday.

📒 Most groups will have reading this week on Wednesday, please can bookbags and diaries come to school daily.

SEESAW – A couple of families have not yet accessed SEESAW, the feedback has been so positive about seeing your child’s learning journey so far, if you still need assistance please email me k.hinton@mgfl.net and I can email you the invite code for your child.

I have also set a short task on SEESAW for you to try if you wish (instructions and task are in the activities section), it discusses our RED ZONE 😡 and requires some discussion and using the app to note responses.  It is meant to be quite engaging and quick and useful for as all to play around with the app incase of  a time where more online activities will be required. 💻

💂🏻‍♀️ 👷🏻PEOPLE WHO HELP US is our topic and it is usually a really fun one as we can have visitors and great discussions around the topic.

This week I would like children to try and find a “person who helps us” and get a photo of themselves with that person (e.g. a family member who works in a shop (in uniform), lollipop lady, childminder etc).  Basically everyone helps someone and it would be nice to have photos of children with a variety of helpers.

Obviously, keep within the COVID guidelines but this is why I suggested a family member or standing beside a vehicle or building associated with people who help us.  Be creative 🙂 Also if you have relevant photos in your albums already these would be great to use too.

These can be emailed to me at k.hinton@mgfl.net.👩🏻‍🚒 👮🏻

NUMBER – We are working hard to recognise number words and matching them to numerals.  We are counting to and from 10 and adding numbers to make 10.

GENTLE REMINDER – We are not permitted to change shoes or clothes so come dressed for activities on Thursday.  WATER ONLY in water bottles unless this is just for lunch. WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL, THIS INCLUDES NUTELLA.

Many thanks
