For Monday 8th February
Show and tell will begin again this week. Please check your child’s show and tell date which was sent out last week. Please only allow your child to bring in a toy/ interesting item from home on their day for show and tell.
Monday
Writing homework jotters will be collected. There will be no writing homework this week.
Phonics homework– This week we are practicing the ‘qu’ and ‘ar’ sounds. A worksheet with ‘qu’ and ‘ar’ words will be sent home- please help your child read these words by sounding them out. These sheets should be kept inside the sounds folder.
Reading homework– new reading books will be handed out today please check reading markers. New key words will be added to your child’s key ring please make sure you practice these words at home so that your child recognises them. It is important that you continue to practice previous key words as well.
Maths homework- Please see dinosaur addition sheet in green book bag. This is due for Friday.
Circus– At home I would like each child to design and make a hand puppet for a circus puppet show. The class will be asked to put on a puppet show in small groups and they will use their puppets to do this. The puppet can be any character from the circus- e.g- acrobat, clown, juggler, fire breather, ring master etc. Feel free to make these puppets as basic or as elaborate as you would like. If you require any materials to help make the puppet please feel free to ask and I am happy to supply them. This is due for Mon 8th Feb.
Tuesday
P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.
The children will be visiting the school library today. If your child hasn’t already done so please ensure that they return their library book no later than today. They will choose a new book which they can take home today and this book will be due back no later than Tuesday 23rd Feb.
Thursday
P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

This week we will be preparing a French play to enter a competition. The class will need to learn the parts for ‘tout le monde’ (everybody), which are mainly songs, and any extra words they may have chosen to take on – Due Wednesday 3rd Feb.
All groups have spelling words – Due Monday 8th Feb
Homework this week-
Spelling/Handwriting – the focus sound is ‘ow’ as in snow, show, throw etc.
Reading – New books when appropriate- see post-it notes in books for homework reading practice. Thanks to all who practised their poems last week.
Numeracy– Just a ‘Sumdog’ challenge this week, ‘P2 add and subtract’. I have reduced the number of questions for each challenge recently and the participation rate from pupils has since soared! Thanks to all who have taken part.

More breaking news…P2 will draw pictures to decorate our local Loanhead library which is holding a ‘Love Your Library’ day this Saturday, 6th February.
Towards the end of this week, we are going to start learning about ‘Chinese New Year’. Next week, one of our parents has very kindly offered to come in to do various activities with the class, over a few days, to celebrate Chinese New Year. One of the activities will be to make and cook traditional Chinese pork dumplings and the children can try to use chopsticks. Please let me know if your child should not try one of these dumplings.

Topic
Pupils to find out the names of the four main islands in Japan for Tuesday 2nd February.
Following on from the work we were doing in class on the Scots language. Please take a pop song, nursery rhyme or any song you want (as long as it is appropriate for school) and change into Scots. You are not allowed to do Taylor Swift ‘shake it off’ as we have already looked at this in class.

This term we are focusing on the 4 x table, if you could practise this new table as well as the 3x table that would be much appreciated. Remember that the children should know the answers as fast as the learn-its.
