P1 Homework- 29.2.16

 

Extreme reading week!

Children will carry a book around school with them every day this week and when a bell rings they will stop what they are doing and read. A second bell will ring to signify the end of reading. Children are welcome to bring a book from home for this or there are plenty books in the classroom they can use.

Monday

Writing homework– New writing sheets have been added to children’s writing jotters. This is due for Friday.

Phonics homework– This week we are practicing the ‘ai and ‘oo’ sounds. A worksheet with these words will be sent home- please help your child read these words by sounding them out. These sheets should be kept inside the sounds folder.

Please continue to practise previous sounds at home especially the trickier ones.

Reading homework– Please make sure that children have their reading books and markers with them everyday. Please check your child’s reading marker for reading homework. Continue to practise new and old key words.

Tuesday

P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

Children will visit the school library today. If you haven’t already done so please return any books you have borrowed no later than today. If your child has not returned a book they will be unable to borrow another book.

Books that are borrowed today are due back on Tues 15th March.

Children will attend a drumming workshop today.

Thursday

P.E. day- please ensure your child has their P.E. kit with them.

Friday

Writing homework jotters will be collected today.

Maths homework will be collected today.

  • Extreme reading! – Pupils to bring in a book (or books) of their choice to stop and read at any point of the day, when the ‘extreme reading bell’ rings!
  • Dressing up as a favourite book character on Thursday** Sorry, meant FRIDAY!!!! Miss B!
  • Designing book covers
  • Talking about our favourite books to the class
  • School Library on Friday ( remember to return current books please)

Spelling/Handwriting focus is ‘ow’ as in now, cow etc…

Reading – ongoing – check green folders daily for updates

Numeracy – a ‘Numeracy Round Up’ sheet should be sent home on Monday 29.2.16. One week to complete this please.

– A new Sumdog challenge has been set – ” P2 Mega Mash-up Maths Challenge W/B 29.2.16 ” – this tests a variety of maths and numeracy covered so far.

Topic– just a reminder that we are looking at types of energy and electricity over the next week or so.

P6 Home learning Miss Prior (due 03.02.16)

On a Thursday’s we are starting to move on to non-fiction reading work. Today we have been reading newspapers and writing questions for each other to answer.

This week’s homework is a comprehension sheet on a current news story. Please answer this in your jotter in full sentences. Look at the types of questions asked. This will help you in class when you are writing your own questions.

Keep up with 20 minutes of reading every night!

Spelling homework for Friday

1. Write spelling words 3 times each in columns using look, say, cover, write check.

2.  Choose 3 spelling words and write a sentence using each.  Try to also use a ‘Wow’ word in your sentence. Remember ‘Wow’ words are words that make your writing more interesting.

Please continue with your learnits at home.

This term we are focusing on the 4 x table, if you could practise this new table as well as the 3x table that would be much appreciated. Remember that the children should know the answers as fast as the learn-its.

If there are any children who need their learnits updated please let me know.

Red 1- New book- The Great Spaghetti Suit- Read pages 3-9 in class and do activity sheet for class. Read 10-17 for homework.

Pink 1- Dragon Tree- Read the next 5 pages and practice key words.

Pink 2- Read pages 1 and 2 of the party.

Orange- Mr Stofflees and the painted tiger. Read chapter 3 at home and complete a book review for the book.

Blue and Yellow-  Violet comprehension for homework- (toolkit strategies- the main idea and process of elimination)

Purple- Read pages 62-79 for homework.

Green- The Personality Potion- Chapter 6 ‘The truth’ for homework and worksheet for homework.

Please keep learning the Moli Hua song and don’t forget to bring anything about Vikings that you have.
