Primary 2 – 27.2.23

Week beginning 27.2.23

Reading Homework – As always, there is a new book this week but I will give it out on Thursday but you will have until Monday to hand it in and read each night.  As the books become tricky, it is so important for learners to read every night to build confidence, fluency and vocabulary.

Numeracy – There will be a numeracy sheet handed out on Thurs which will be due on Monday. (Homework will go back to Monday for Fri next week)   This is either on subtraction in 20 (solving the missing number e.g. 12-? = 5 and using a numberline to help) or addition and subtraction in 40 – children can either time themselves to answer them or agree 10/15 mins to be times and see how many they can answer.  The strategy we use is to work with the ones fist then the tens e.g. 34 – 12 would be broken into 4-2 and 3-1 to get 22.

Tues- Wed Schools are closed as it is a Teacher strike

Thursday – Book day but no dressing up.  Instead build a diorama or a character from a potato/lego etc.

PLEASE BRING INDOOR SHOES TO LEAVE IN SCHOOLS AND TO CHANGE INTO WHEN ENTERING THE CLASSROOM

SPRING FLING – Please remember to pop the payment for tickets in an envelope and hand in to teacher or office.

P1 Week Beginning 27.2.23

Learning Trio target sheets will go home on Thursday.

Homework follows the same cycle of being handed out on Monday and book bags stay in school on Friday for homework to be organised for the following week.

For World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March) children can recreate their favourite book/character/setting etc. in a way of their choosing. For example, they could paint the gruffalo forest on a piece of cardboard or make it 3D with a shoebox!

Reminder: Stay and Play is on Friday 3rd March 9am – 9:50am and it is only one parent per child. Please enter through our classroom door!

Homework

Reading: Children will bring home their book and the reading pages written in their green record should be completed that night.

Phonics/Spelling: Children will  bring home their spelling jotter with a new list of words to practise. This should be handed in on Friday. Please remember that it is really important you tell your child the words to be spelt and they do this independently.

We have also had a lot of focus on our handwriting and letter formation. We have been learning little rhymes to help us with our formation, please find these here. Letter-formation-chart

P.E – Children now have P.E. on Monday and Wednesday with Miss Simpson. Please ensure your child brings a P.E kit to change into.

French: Mrs Lynch is teaching French to the class every Thursday.

*We would like to make a P1 Family wall display in the classroom. Please hand in or email me any photos of your child with you all, we would love to make a lovely display in our class. Thank you to those who have brought/sent photos already.*

Homework (only reading this week!)

Reading: Children will bring their book in their book bag and the pages to be read will be written in their green reading record. Please sign this to evidence reading has been completed. Some children will come home with a little slip of green words, these words should be learned to support their progress in reading.
