P6 Week Beginning 1.11.21

Hi all,

P6 has another very busy week ahead!

On Monday afternoon, we have our second session with Dunedin consort.

P.E. is on Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed for P.E. and has a water bottle, filled with water only.

Homework will be handed out on Monday and should be handed in on Friday. This week, there will be spelling, reading and numeracy. This week, the numeracy task will be practising rounding decimals to the nearest whole number, tenth or hundredth.

Mandarin with Miss Sun is on Wednesday afternoon.

We will have our ZOOM assembly on Friday at 10am and P6 will be sharing their learning about fire safety, and Bonfire night at it.

Learning Trios: On Friday, your child brought home their Learning Trio appointment slip. If this appointment is unsuitable, then please get in touch with the school office. Please remember that if you wish to change your appointment to a phone call, this will be on a different day, and not Wednesday or Friday. Please note, if you are attending a face to face appointment, that it should only be yourself and your child at the appointment. We will be using the classroom door as our entrance/exit, keeping a safe distance, wiping down surfaces and wearing masks to keep everyone safe.

I look forward to seeing you all on either Wednesday 3rd or Friday 5th November.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch, if you need anything.

P5 Week Beginning 25/10/21

Parents and Carers,

I hope that you have all had an enjoyable and restful week. The children have all returned full of news and seem happy to be back at school.

We have a busy couple of weeks ahead. This week we are having a Health Week where we are learning about keeping our bodies healthy.

We are also going to be learning about climate change with some COP26 activities as this is obviously very relevant to us all. Most of this work will be next week, I will let you know more information about this next week. In preparation for one of the activities we need your help please:

WANTED! Can you please send in any empty and washed Tetra Packs (cardboard juice/milk containers) even better if they have foil insides! URGENT!

As part of the Midlothian Science Festival we are meeting a scientist called Susan Jarvis. Her specialism is in animal science and is particularly interested in animal behaviour and welfare. Today the children produced a lot of questions for her so it looks like it will be an interesting session.

I have not sent reading homework home today, this will start tomorrow – please see their reading books as usual.

Spelling homework this week is about health vocabulary – please see your child’s homework jotter.

DRESS DOWN DAY: On Friday 29th October children can dress down in clothes that make them feel happy. This could be a favourite T-shirt, whole outfit or dress etc. Please ensure that no accessories are sent in as part of their outfit.

Three letters were sent home today – PLEASE CHECK YOUR CHILD’S BAG.

  • Milk letter to be returned by Monday 1st November
  • Parent / Child / Teacher Trio meetings to be returned by Friday 29th October.  N.B. If you choose to have a telephone consultation this will be arranged for a different date to the ones stated on the form.
  • Guitar lesson letter.

PE was today and Thursday as usual and we have Mandarin on Wednesday and an assembly on Friday.

The children all have their SUMDOG passwords to help them with their numeracy learning.

If children want or need to use Google Classroom they can no longer access this through GLOW. Every child in Midlothian has been given a new email and login for Google Workspace. This is how they will access Google Classroom  More information about this will be shared soon.

As always, if you have any queries or concerns please see me at the classroom door or drop me an email or phone call.

Many thanks,

Lisa Cumming

P6 Week Beginning 26.10.21

Hello,

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful October break. The children had lots of fun things to share today, and it all sounded like a lot of fun.

We have come back to school with a very busy week! Today (Tuesday), we became scientists and designed our own carbon net zero towns, and had a call from the National Mining Museum to discuss our ideas. I was so impressed by how many brilliant ideas the children came up with! Then, after this we started our first workshop with Dunedin Consort, we will be working towards creating our own composition, which will then be performed by them later in the year. These workshops will run in school for a number of weeks.

P.E. is on Wednesday afternoon. Please ensure your child comes to school dressed for P.E. and has a water bottle, filled with water only.

Homework will be handed out on Tuesday and should be handed in on Friday. This week, there will be spelling, reading and numeracy. This week, the numeracy task is a revision of multiplication, through a fun Halloween activity.

Mandarin with Miss Sun is on Wednesday afternoon and on Thursday, we have the fantastic opportunity to meet a real life scientist online. It is certainly going to be a fun and busy week!

Important Letters went home with your child today.

  • You should have received a milk letter, which needs to be returned by Monday 1st November, if you wish for your child to receive milk in school.
  • A letter about guitar lessons also went home, please fill this in and return it, if your child is interested.
  • Finally, a letter regarding our Learning Trio’s was also handed out this afternoon, please complete the slip and return it to school by Friday 29th October by the latest.

We will have our ZOOM assembly on Friday at 11:30am and the children have a dress down day too. This week is one of our Health Weeks, so we ask that the children wear clothes which make them feel happy on Friday. (For example, maybe their favourite top or a dress in their favourite colour?)

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch, if you need anything.

💚 P1 News and Information. WEEK BEG: 25.10.21

I hope you have all had an enjoyable holiday week and a day off and are all relaxed and ready to learn.

This week is health week, we are encouraging a healthy morning and afternoon snack to be brought in each day.🥝

🥪Lunches:  This week is the start of pupils having pre chosen lunches.  We are on week 3 currently and the menu can be found on the Midlothian school website if you never had a chance to take a copy of the order form.

Friday:  Dress in a happy outfit. This is not a Halloween dress down day. no props or accessories please.

Homework:  There are some SEESAW activities and children should be practising key words a few times a week. There are no reading books this week but I have asked the children to play a board game with 2 dice so they can add the 2 numbers together.  This supplements work done in school.

Our phonic sounds are c/k this week.

Please can you return you treasure hunts and parents night slips by Friday.  Flu Vaccines are on Monday 1st Nov.

Thanks

🍎School Lunches:

Your child will come home with a school lunch order form this week.  This is a 3 weekly rotating menu.  Due to Natasha’s law, Midlothian council would like parents to choose their child’s lunch in advance.  These menus run up until Christmas.

Please discuss lunch choices with your child, fill in the forms and return by WEDNESDAY 13th OCTOBER.  Lunches will be made to these forms so please ensure you choose something your child will at.  NOTE: You may still provide a home packed lunch if you prefer.

🌽Harvest: Please see previous post about Harvest donations for Woman’s Aid and bring in donations this week.

🎄Christmas cards:  Please can the card order form on the back of the design be returned to school with correct payment by Friday 15th October.  Even if paying by Parent Pay please return the order form to school.

📸Class Photos: Class photos will be taken on Wednesday/Thursday.  Children should wear school uniform or a school jumper at lease on these days.  Even if it is a PE day.

✅SeeSaw

You should have received a SeeSaw login code last week.  I am pleased to see most families have accessed it.  There will be no set homework this week  but I will set key words activities, sounds activities and number activities through seesaw.

Focus:

📗literacy – Making words using s,a,t,i,p,n and knowing these sounds. Key words stage 1 (and 2 for some)

🧮Numeracy – Knowing 0-10, 10-0, numbers before, after and in between to 10.  Some children confidently know this and are trying  numbers to15 with the same skills.

💻Digital activities:

I highly recommend the website “teach your monster to read” this is free.  The app is paid for but often goes free and I suggest getting it when it does because it is very beneficial.

We use topmarks games like these below, if you have time to explore these with your child I am sure they would really enjoy it:
