P2 w.b. 17.12.18

Here we are at the last week before the holidays and there is plenty on to keep us busy!

There will be no homework this week and I will be keeping the bookbags at school over the holidays so I can organise homework for the first weeks back.

Last week for library book returns – please make sure your child has returned their library book before the holidays.

On Thursday the children will be taking their P.E kits home so they can be washed and ready for the new term in January.

Party – On Wednesday the children have their party, just a gentle reminder that the cost of this party is £2 for your child. Children can also bring in clothes to get changed into at the end of lunchtime. Santa is coming at 2:30pm and you’re more than welcome to join for a photo!

Last Day of Term – There is a Christmas assembly at the church on Friday, led by Mr Duffin. The children will be leaving school around 9am and been asked to bring one item to donate to a local foodbank. They will be carrying this item with them on the walk to church.

School finishes at 12pm on Friday and the children return on Tuesday 8th January.

We had a fabulous time on Wednesday at our carol singing and the residents really enjoyed it. We even got a request at the end for Baby Shark! This week the children will be making Christmas cards for the residents!

I cannot thank you enough for all of your support this term, and I cannot wait to see what the next term holds.

I wish you all a fun and safe Christmas and New Year!

Miss Lauren Waller

P6 Events W/B 17.12.18

Hi all,

It’s the final countdown…a fun packed week awaits!

This week:

There will be no homework this week but on Monday, I will collect in all spelling jotters, reading journals and reading books.

The first week back in 2019 is designated as Scottish Week. There will be a Burns poem for everyone to learn and recite. Children will have 2-3 weeks to prepare a pupil talk on a Scottish theme and our main project will be based on the Jacobite period.

PE – Can children have their kit in all week please as the halls’ timetables are temporarily suspended due to both schools requiring show practices. At the end of the week, children will be asked to bring home their PE kit for washing.

P3-7 Concert – We think that everyone now has something to wear for the concert; thanks to those who brought their own costumes in. Everyone will dress up for our rehearsal on Monday. The actual concert is on Tuesday afternoon at 13:45. One family member per family is welcome to spectate.

Party – Our Xmas party is on Thursday afternoon. There are quite a few children still to pay £2 towards this. Children may bring party clothes to change into before the party commences.

House Singing Competition – This week, the P7 house captains will be teaching their house teams a Christmas song to perform in school ( to pupils only) on Thursday – who will win this year?

Church on FridayFood Bank Donation -The school will have a Christmas assembly with Mr Duffin at his church, commencing around 09:30. Children have been asked to bring one item to donate to a local foodbank; children will carry their item up to church for the collection there.

School finishes at 12 noon. Pupils resume Tuesday 8th January 2019.

I wish you all a happy Christmas and a fabulous New Year!

Thanks for your continued support,

Miss S Brunt

P6 Homework W/B 10.12.18

Hi all,

There are only two weeks to go until the end of term, time is flying by!

This week:

Spelling – as normal; homework to be completed for next Monday ( but this will be the last week of homework).

Reading – Children have worked very well with their reading journal. Children should have completed Task 4 by now.  I’ll catch up with all the reading groups this week.

PE – Can children have their kit in all week please as the halls’ timetables are temporarily suspended due to both schools requiring show practices.

Indoor shoes – Can you ask your child if he/she has their indoor shoes at school. If not, can they please bring a pair ASAP as the floors and carpets are getting very muddy! There are still children with no change of shoes.

Christmas Lunch– is on Wednesday. Children should have made their menu selections by now. Remember to wear a Christmas jumper!

Ski-ing – We had a safety and information talk from a Hillend ski instructor last week. Can children have payment and permission slips in as soon as possible please. I will post a separate ski-ing update later on this week, just going over what the ski instructor told us about what to expect when we go in January.

Thanks for your continued support,

Miss S Brunt

Another reminder of a few things that are happening over the last 2 weeks..

Monday 10th December – P1/2 Nativity for Parents @ 2pm.

Wednesday 19th December – P1/2 Christmas Party (Children can bring a change of party clothes to change into at lunchtime if they wish). Mr Claus is visiting the children around 2:30pm and you are more than welcome to come and join us for a wonderful photo opportunity!

Friday 21st December – Christmas Service at the Church in the morning and last day of term. Finish @ 12pm.

If anyone would like to join us on the walk down to the church and for the service, then please let me know as it would be greatly appreciated.

This is the final week for homework this week.

Reading: Continues as normal, check your child’s reading record for the pages. This week we are talking about the reading skill of predicting. When reading encourage your child to try and predict what will happen in the story.

Have a lovely week,

Homework w/b 3.12.18

FUNDRAISING: Update

I would like to start off this week by saying a big thank you to everyone who came and supported us at the school fair by buying some of our Christmas crafts.  Collectively we made over £1300. As well as this I can finally share with you the total from our Children in Need PJ day. As a school we raised £229! Big thank you to everyone involved and for all your contributions

CHRISTMAS SHOW

As you know our Christmas show is coming up and we have been prepping outfits in class. In p3 we have a mix of angels and sheep. If your child has been told they’re an angel they will need some fairy wings however we are severely lacking in these in school. If you have any at home that you could contribute for the performance it would be appreciated. If your child has been told that they are a sheep if possible could you send your child to school with a plain white tshirt and black/brown/cream leggins. We are also going to be making some cotton wool ears and tails in school therefor any contributions of cotton wool are also welcome.

We could also benefit with any clothes hangers you may be able to provide to hang the children’s costumes.

HOMEWORK

This week we are revising the air sound as many of us found this difficult. Therefore this week we are not moving on to the next spelling list. The run up to Christmas is so busy for both us in school and for you at home as well as many of the  children having events coming up with out of school groups. As a result I have chosen to hold back on written homework until after the Christmas holidays. I would however encourage you to continue reading homework at home this has been handed out this week and will be handed out next week for the final time this term.

Wednesday 19th December – P1/2 Christmas Party (Children can bring a change of clothes to change into at lunchtime)

Friday 21st December – Last day of term

Homework for this week.

Reading – Continues as normal, check your child’s reading record for the pages to be read on that day.

Spelling – This week we are revising short and long vowels. The spelling list is titled ‘colours’, this is the one to practise this week.

Children also received a letter about the lunch choices for the campus Christmas lunch next week, please can you ensure that this is filled in and returned by Friday 7th December so the kitchen staff have plenty of notice.

The lower atrium love to get crafty and make many things so we would love if anyone has any clean and empty boxes/containers that the children could use for junk modelling. Please note for any packaging that may have contained nuts.

Hope you have a great week,

Miss Lauren Waller

Good evening all,

Homework for this week:

Reading books will be coming home from Tuesday onwards. On Thursday we will also send home either a reading comprehension worksheet or a key word worksheet.

Phonics: We will be learning 3 new sounds this week, please help your child to complete the worksheet in their red book following our lesson on the sound.

Monday: ‘z’

Tuesday: ‘w’

Wednesday: ‘ng’

We have sent home the meal options for the school Christmas dinner – please fill in your child’s selection and return this to us as soon as possible so we can notify our dining staff, thank you.
