Primary 6 – Week Beginning: 9.9.19

Hello,

I would like to give a warm welcome to the pupils in P6 this year and all parents. It was a pleasure to meet those that were able to attend the ‘meet the teacher’ session a couple of weeks ago and I look forward to speaking with you all at a later date.

I feel that it has been a good start to the new term and I am enjoying getting to know all the pupils in P6! There have been many great lessons and activities that the pupils and I have shared already, such as our trip to Penicuik Cricket Club for a tournament and tag rugby every Thursday afternoon at the school. I have also been impressed with our French accents in the classroom during French lessons and the pupils’ eagerness to learn Mandarin each Wednesday with Mrs Sun.

Our class topic at the moment is the European Union! We are learning about the history, the membership countries, the purpose of it and the pros and cons to being a part of the EU, which we will link to current issues in the UK and BREXIT.

We are also currently enjoying a class novel called, Kensuke’s Kingdom by Michael Morpurgo. Each week we have been reading a chapter, discussing the main themes and doing class work based around the book.

Homework

Homework each week will consist of;

  • Spellings written into our homework jotters on a Tuesday, to be learnt for dictation on a Friday.
  • Reading will be set from the reading books each pupil reads during class time. The pages to be read for homework will be set on Monday or Tuesday and can be seen in the pupils’ reading diaries.
  • Other (Maths / Writing and Grammar / Topic) – This homework will be set in discussion with Mrs. Wallace and I. This will not be every week.

Thank you all for your support,

Mr. Nelson

Hello P3 parents/guardians!

Hello everyone!

I hope your children have enjoyed their first week back at school. I am a new face at Loanhead but all the staff, children and parents I have spoken to have made me feel very welcome since arriving here. Hopefully I’ll get the chance to speak to most of you on Wednesday for Meet The Teacher!

Primary 3 will have P.E with Mrs Duncan on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so please make sure that they have their kit with them on both days.

I am intending on starting spelling and reading homework with the class this coming week. Ms Waller has been a massive help in showing me what kind of homework they were doing in P2, and I intend on handing out homework in a format that is familiar to them. Maths homework will start after I get a chance to see how everyone’s getting on with their numbers! I will keep you all posted with information regarding homework.

My email address is s.mcgaff@mgfl.net. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about anything or if you feel there is anything I need to know. Well done to Primary 3 on a fantastic first week back, I hope it is the first of many to come!

Mr Sam McGaff

P4 week beginning 17/06/19

Many thanks,

Lisa Cumming.

Homework week 11/06/2019

Zoo Trip

Not long now until we are off to the zoo! Thanks to everyone for bringing the money in on time.  Monday’s weather is predicted to be sunny with a chance of light showers around lunchtime.  Therefore, can I please remind you that all children must bring a suitable raincoat with them should it start to rain.  Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that school uniform is expected as this helps make our children more identifiable.

On Thursday we plan to have a class discussion about our trip so feel free to send your child in with any questions or should you wish to email us with any concerns you may have, please do not hesitate.

Literacy

This weeks spelling sound is  ‘ore’  which can be found in ‘shore and more’. Please encourage children to practise these at home.

This week the class homework is focusing on interpreting data from a bar chart as data handling is our most recent maths topic and is good revision for the class as we begin to look at other methods of data recording.
