P4 Homework 24.1.17 and tomorrow Mini Ceilidh.

Homework 24/01/17

APOLOGIES The supply teacher sent home the incorrect word lists last week. I failed to realise until Thursday.

Tomorrow! Wednesday 25th January

We are having a mini ceilidh with P1,2 and 3 tomorrow afternoon, there will be some oatcakes, cheese and shortbread as a snack. Children can wear tartan if they have some.

Spelling– Week 1) ai and igh

Gorillas (igh) sound like in day or pay

Pandas (ai) sound

Wolves (ai) sound

Write a sentence for each word and try to think of at least three more more words that contain this sound. Are there any other words that contain this sound that are spelled without ai or igh?

Reading Homework

The yellow and the blue group will be starting a block of comprehension for homework as of next week.

Pink – See bookmark

Orange – See bookmark

Yellow- No reading (some people have lines for the assembly)

Blue –  No reading ( some people have lines for the assembly)

Green –  See bookmark

*NEW*   Numeracy- Keep going with your Learnits. If there are any people who need new learnits can you write a note and let me know.

Learnits- The Rules…

The children are asked the question on the learnits card on several occasions and if they answer correctly,  within about two seconds, they can have a tick. Once they have ten ticks they can throw the learnit away. Once the envelope is empty they can have some new learnits. You can keep the envelope at home until it needs refilled.

Don’t feel you have to do all of them at once. A few at a time is sufficient.

P4 Newsletter- Christmas Fair and Matilda the Movie (date change 8th December) .

Christmas Fair

Please remember that it is the Christmas Fair on Friday.

There will be no swimming on Friday 2nd of December to give us time to organise our stall.

Primary 4 are selling calendars and we look forward to seeing you there at the fair to buy them.

If anyone has any donations for the tombola, raffle, chocolate tombola or anything else we’d be happy to receive them!

Children can be collected at class at 12:00, however, the others must stay with me to help on the stall until 12:25 unless they are collected. If you wish your child to be collected my another parent can you send me a note to that effect in advance.

Don’t forget your pennies- Mrs Cooney needs a new headphone story centre for the classroom! 🙂 🙂 🙂

Swimming will resume as normal for the two weeks after this on the  9th and 16th of December.

Thursday 8th December- Matilda Movie Afternoon

We have been studying the novel Matilda in class and we are planning to watch the movie on Thursday 8th in the afternoon. We will be looking at the similarities and differences of plot and characterisation. I have said that the children can bring in a snack, savoury, sweet or fruit to share with the class, if you allow. This is instead of doing a similar thing in the last week, though we may still watch a movie, there will be no snacks.

Please remember! No fizzy juice and that we are a NUT FREE school- please ensure that all snacks are nut free. Malteasers and Haribo are always safe if you are in doubt!

Thanks,

Mrs Cooney

P4 Newsletter 27/09/16

Hi all,

Just a little update about some things going on in class just now.

Topic

Our new topic is Vikings! We are going to be learning about the past and how to use evidence to tell us about it. We are going to be looking at facts and theories and discussing the evidence that we have to support the fact we are learning. We will be identifying evidence that is reliable and evidence that is not.

If anyone feels that they can help in anyway with this topic, please don’t hesitate to be in touch!

Trip

The children are excited about the new topic and to support their learning I have organised a trip to the National Museum of Scotland. The children will watch a play and have a chance to explore the museum and some artifacts.

The trip is on the 6th of October from 10am-1:30pm and we are in the process of costing the trip. However, if anyone is available to help out on the day it would be much appreciated. Just let me know by note, in person or via the office.

Sponsored Triathalon

Luca in our class is taking part in a sponsored triathlon in support of Laila in P4.Luca is hoping that he can raise enough money for Laila and her family to have a nice treat now that she is feeling much more fit and well. He is taking part in his Triathlon on the 22nd of October, starting at Arthur’s seat in Edinburgh and then going onto the commonwealth pool.

Though in no way expected, if anyone wishes to sponsor Luca, you can have a chat with his mum Nicola in the playground.

I am sure that we are all wishing him well in this task and hope that he does his best in the event! Thank you Luca!

Classroom Helpers

I am really looking for a volunteer who might like to help me on a Tuesday morning. from 9:30-10:30 whilst we are spelling. This could be every second week if necessary.

If there is anyone who wished to help that could commit to a short block of visits it would be much appreciated!

As always if anyone has any queries or questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
