P4 Homework 29/04/19

This week P4 have the following homework.

Spelling: as per their homework jotter. Please make sure your child writes sentences that include their spelling words. The sentences must not start with ‘I’.

Numeracy: We are having a times tables focus at the moment, knowing their times tables will help with a lot of activities in numeracy and maths. e.g. fractions, division, measure, addition, money.  We learn them in the following order:  10x, 2x, 5x, 3x, 4x. This is the minimum we aim for children to know by the end of P4.

Reading: Please refer to the reading diary.

PE will continue to be on Wednesday and Thursdays.

Next Monday –  6th May is a holiday for staff and children.

Our main topic this term is ‘The Romans’.

Thank you,

Lisa Cumming

P4 Homework 25/03/19

Spelling homework is written in their jotters, this is to be handed in on Friday. It should be completed in cursive writing and children should write sentences that include their spelling words.

Reading is in their reading diary, we are reading every day so reading book and diary should be in school every day.

The fractions sheet they had sent home last week is due in on Wednesday.

As you may have heard Mrs Cooney has had a baby girl, both are well and she has been named Elspeth. We wish them all well. The children have all been very excited to hear news of Mrs Cooney and her baby.

Library books should be returned by next week please. Sadly Janice and Christine are retiring from being our librarians. They have done an amazing job of increasing and maintaining the library and providing the borrowing service for the children. Huge thanks go to Janice and Christine.

ONLINE AND COMPUTER SAFETY UPDATE

Safety Online!

Screen Addiction

e-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Loanhead Primary School . We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any e-Safety incidents are recorded and managed.  e-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

Recently, many of the children have been talking about the Momo challenge and have been increasingly worried about it.  Like many of these online phenomenon the publicity and hype has made this a lot bigger than it needs to be.  For a quick briefing on it see the link below.

MOMO INFO

It’s essential to be realistic – banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is essential.

Primary 4 Homework 25/02/19

I’ve had a lovely first week with the class, we have revisited the class charter and talked about what we would like our class to be like. The children wanted these things to feature in our class charter:

We will care for each other and be kind to each other.

We will be calm and quiet which helps us to listen, concentrate and learn.

We will speak calmly to each other.

We will be respectful to everyone.

We will listen to each other.

We will try and resolve problems with our friends ourselves (we know we can ask adults for help if we need it).

We will follow instructions.

I will post homework on the website every week. I intend to set homework on Mondays and would like it in on Fridays.

This week children have reading which is noted in their reading diaries. Please make sure you sign your child’s reading record when completed and that your child has their reading book and diary every day as they will read daily.

Spelling: As listed in their homework jotters: list of words, to make sentences and learn the words in the way your child prefers.

Every child has their Sumdog password now.

Topic this term: We will be learning about Climate Zones and Weather. We will also be looking at Charles Rennie Mackintosh and his art work.

We will also be covering some Science this term.

Lisa Cumming
