P2 Homework W/B 28.11.16

Homework this week:

SpellingNew sheet. Ignore the first list. Go onto List 14 a-e. We call this ‘Magic e’. The ‘e’ at the end of the word turns the short vowel sound into a long vowel sound.

Reading – please send in book bags daily. Time for reading this week will be a bit more limited as we have full nativity rehearsals and the school fair to prepare for. However, please continue to check the post-it markers for updates.

Topic – We have started a topic on electricity. Last week, we talked about power/energy and looked around for items that were powered by electricity. This week , we’ll find out more about being safe around electricity.

Events this week –

PE – please have kits in daily as normal hall timetables are suspended just now. We will have PE this week at some point and also Scottish Country Dancing practice. Last week, P1 and P2 joined together to be introduced to country dancing with a visiting teaching student who happened to be a pipe player!

Friday – School Christmas Fair– from 12 noon onwards – info to follow about pick up arrangements for your child. If any parents can help at our toy stall, please let me know ASAP.

Friday -SSPCA  visit to address the school at assembly.

Friday – Library

Thanks,

Miss Brunt

Parent helpers P1 and P2 for Christmas Fair

Primary 1 and 2 are responsible for the second-hand toy stall at the Christmas Fair on Friday 2nd December. We  urgently need some parents to come in and help  with sorting and pricing the toys for the stall.

If any parents are available to come in on Thursday afternoon, anytime from 12:45pm, please let Mrs Cumming or Miss Brunt know.

P2 Homework W/B 21.11.16

Homework this week:

Spelling – List 12 ‘ck’

Reading – continues as normal – keep checking book bags for updates.

No numeracy task

Show and Tell – Week 2 rota

School Fair Donations–   P2 are helping to organise the 2nd hand toy stall so any decent (good condition)  toys that are no longer wanted, will be gratefully received- thanks!

Nativity – the parts in the play have been decided so Mrs Cumming and I will send everyone a little note home this week, stating your child’s part and whether or not they need any costume from home. Fortunately, we are very well resourced for this in school and we won’t need many children to bring in items from home. If your child has a speaking part, he/she will get lines home at the start of this week. Please help your child learn their lines – many thanks!

Thanks for your support,

Miss Brunt

P2 Homework W/B 7.11.16

Homework this week –

Spelling – List 10 ‘ ll’ – can children please complete the written part of their homework in their green jotter; last week, only about half the class did so. If your child practises their spelling elsewhere, on other paper for example, just write me a wee note in their spelling jotter to let me know. Thanks.

Reading – as usual, check green reading bags. We will start to read ‘Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark’ by Jill Tomlinson as a class novel.

Maths – Well done to those who completed our first Sumdog challenge. This week, the Sumdog challenge is called ‘Days, Months and Hands of the Clock’ – 75 coins to collect.

Topic – We say farewell to the topic on Dinosaurs and think about Day/Night and safety in the dark ( links in perfectly with the Owl novel).

Nativity – The P1/2 Nativity performance is scheduled for Monday 12th December ( time TBC). Mrs Cumming and I have chosen the script we want to use this year (Christmas with the Aliens)  and already the infants have been learning some songs. We’ll try and give out parts/roles this week 🙂 We’ll let you know in due course if your child has lines to learn or needs help with their costume.

Unfortunately no pictures were taken of the time machine, the volcanic eruption simulator, the submarine, the 4D movie experience with an actual snow flurry or the rainforest downpour. However, a great day was had by all.

P2 Homework W/B 31.10.16

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Homework this week:

Spelling – List 9 ‘ff’  (unless you have been advised separately)

Reading – Everyone will get a Halloween poem and some jokes to read and enjoy on Monday. From Tuesday onwards, we’ll get back into our reading routine (which was off track last week, partly because of our school trip and extra activities surrounding this).

Numeracy – If you can access Sumdog at home, I’ve put on an activity called “Our First Challenge”. 75 points to collect, revising basic numerical skills. If you cannot access this at home, do not worry as children can access this in school in one of our ICT sessions.

Maths – Telling the time – as the clocks have changed, we’ll look at o’clock this week.

Topic – We’ll finish off the topic on Dinosaurs by creating some dinosaur ‘Top Trump’ cards. We’ll also start to learn about fireworks safety and bonfire night.

PE – Can children have PE kit in with them at all times as we may have to reschedule Tuesday’s time due to lack of hall availability. Thursday PE as normal.

Thank you,

Miss Brunt
