P7 Info W/B 9th March 2020

Hi all,

This week sees ‘Road Safety Day’ ( Beep Beep Day!) on Wednesday so the Junior Road Safety Officers and Mrs Sharp have organised some activities for children. Pupils have been asked if they can wear one Hi-Viz item of clothing to school that day. A letter was sent home about this. Many thanks.

Football Club – Mr McGaff and Mr Nelson are planning to run a P7 football club after school on Tuesdays, alternating weeks for girls and boys. Details still to be confirmed.

Basketball Tournament – Ten P7s will represent LPS on Wednesday morning at a local competition so, good luck folks!

PE is Monday, Tuesday and rugby is on Thursday this week.

Chrome Books – Mrs Gilchrist, from ICT support, is coming to P7 on Tuesday to drop off chrome books ( a 4 week loan) to show us how to start using Google Classroom. Watch this space! Children have been successfully using Scratch in school and at home to code animations and games. They have picked this up very quickly!

Science – Our focus this term is on energy and in particular, electricity. Children have had fun exploring simple circuits and we hope to incorporate this into models or games.

Independent Study –There’s a core group of pupils who consistently do not complete their study tasks at home. I am going to speak to these children this week. An extension on the last task will be given. If work is still not being done, a message will be sent home to inform individual parents of this. Well done to those who do complete their tasks. You are developing independent study skills that you will need at secondary school. A new reading comprehension task will be sent home on Wednesday this week.

Headstrong – P7 participated in their first session last Friday. Pupils will be given a scrapbook to start collecting memories in; photos, certificates, newspaper cuttings, tickets for events etc.

And finally…

Unbelievably, it is coming to the time thoughts are really turning to the end of primary school for P7s and their new adventures at secondary school. We are already exploring ideas for the end of term P7 show. However, I wondered if parents could start to send in a (maximum of 2) photos of your child on their first day at school ( even if not at Loanhead at that point). Failing this, a photo of your child when they were about 5 years old. I know this maybe seems early but time really does fly by. You can send a digital photo to me at S.Brunt@mgfl.net or hand in an actual print for me to scan. TIA!

Thank you,

Miss S Brunt
