If anyone has any photos, memorabilia, artefacts, books or anything relating to WWII that can be brought in, that would be most helpful. All items will be carefully looked after!

If anyone has a family member who remembers the war as a child and would like to share their stories with us, that would be incredible. Please let me know.

School Camp Info

A meeting about camp is planned for Thursday 26th September, 6:30pm, at Burnbrae Primary. Just for parents please, no children, as there won’t be enough space at the venue. A kit list was sent home last week.

P2 Homework w.b. 18.9.19

Hi all,

I hope you all had a lovely and restful long weekend.

Please remember that children must bring their bookbags to school everyday so they have their book for reading and I, or Mrs Tobyn, can sign their reading records when they complete reading in class. This is also where we put important letters etc. I keep bookbags in school over the weekend, so I can check homework and sort out the next weeks worth.

There will be a letter regarding the P1/2 Harvest assembly and collection in your child’s book bag within the next few days.

Learning Trio appointment slips will be in your child’s bookbag on Thursday (tomorrow), if you need to amend your appointment then please do so via the school office. These will take place on Friday 27th September and Thursday 10th October. Please ensure your child is also in attendance as we will be working together with parents/carers and the child to create targets for the term.

There is a curriculum evening regarding our new approach to reporting on Thursday 26th September, 6:30pm – 7:30pm – All are welcome!

Homework for the week:

Reading: Please check your child’s green reading record for the pages to be read on that date, and initial to evidence that reading has been completed at home.

Spelling: We are learning the ‘ng’ sound this week, the spelling list contains words with this sound and our new tricky words for the week (was, be).

Thank you for all of your support,

Miss Lauren Waller

Homework for this week (due 20th September)

Hello everyone, I hope you’ve had a restful September break!

Just thought I’d make an announcement for homework this week to avoid any confusion as the task will be different to our ‘standard’ weekly homework. I will send home with each child tomorrow a specific reading comprehension worksheet suited to the level they are reading at. If possible, could you work with your child to answer the questions at the back and return this on Friday. This will provide an opportunity to practice reading comprehension with your child and read a different form of text with them! Since this working week is shorter, there will be no spelling homework alongside this. Normal homework will resume next week though!

Best wishes,

Mr Sam McGaff

P4 Homework Expectation

Spelling Homework

Now your child is in P4, they will be encouraged to have greater independence and responsibility for their own learning. Therefore, spelling homework will be taken home on a Wednesday afternoon and returned the following Tuesday morning. This must be checked and initialed by an adult.

Pupils will write their spelling words on a new page of their jotter on Wednesday each week. At home they should use:

LOOK  THINK  COVER  WRITE   CHECK

Write out their new spelling words three times in neat columns. They should also complete a green activity card which will earn pupils 2 credit card points. An optional red activity may be completed for extra practice (and 1 credit card point) but is not mandatory.

Reading Homework

Reading will consist of a variety of activities including Literacy Circles, Novel Studies and individual reading tasks. A library novel will also be chosen by your child.

Maths & Numeracy Homework

Maths/Numeracy homework will be given out on a regular basis to tie in with what has been taught in class. This will be handed out on Wednesday to be returned the following Tuesday morning.

Topic Homework

There will be occasional homework for topic which may include individual research and class talks.

General Expectation

Please ensure homework book is covered. In P4 we expect children to date work, present their work neatly, and use rulers to draw lines.

Thank you for your support,

Mrs Watts & Mrs Roy

Holiday Reminder! (Monday and Tuesday next week)

Hi everyone,

I’ve had a few questions about when school goes back next week so I thought it would make sense to make a whole class announcement. The children are off Monday the 16th and Tuesday the 17th. Everyone comes back on Wednesday the 18th. Hope you enjoy your extended weekend, and well done to the whole P3 class for another fantastic week!

Best wishes,

Mr McGaff

Maths Learning Walls – Out today

Hello everyone,

Following Monday’s homework announcement, I have handed out maths learning wall worksheets today. The learning walls are a range of numeracy activities designed to support your child’s mental maths agility. These tasks are optional, however if you choose to do them I would recommend focusing on one a week. If you have completed a task, please highlight it so I know which ones you have already completed. It is entirely up to you or your child which task you choose to do! I intend on handing out more sheets as the year goes on to match the level your child is working at.

Best wishes,

Mr McGaff

Primary 5 Information week beginning 9/9/19

Numeracy

This week in numeracy we will be looking at doubles and halves within 100 (and beyond) as well as consolidating place value to a million.  For numeracy homework pupils have a times tables challenge card and there has been a learn its letter sent home (click here) to explain what areas of metal maths P5 should be working on and revising.  We encourage at least 10 minutes of metal maths every night to really boost numeracy skills and confidence.

Literacy

Pupils have reading homework most nights, it is important to hear your child read and discuss their reading with them.  Each group has spelling words to learn for Friday and their dictation test is on Monday.

Please remember to check your child’s homework, we encourage cursive handwriting and best work both at home and school.  If possible please sign their homework diaries.

SCHOOL PHOTOS – TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY – Depending on time taken etc.

Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th of September are a Holiday and In service day. Pupils resume on Wednesday.
