4/9/17 Primary 7 news

Please can pupils return Risk factory forms and payments by Tues 🙂

We will be leaving prompt on Wed, please remember hoodies and packed lunches.

Lasswade has an information evening on Thursday which is for current S1 pupils, The P7 date has changed to November 1st and they have still to decide times.

Camp Info packs have been given out and should be returned by Friday. An info sheet will be given out too. I forgot to put red hoodies on the camp kit list…plese can pupils travel in these.

We are currently reading Wonder in class, a book that celebrates differences and teaches the importance of being Kind. I recommend this book to adults too as it is fabulous. We are producing a 30day kindness challenge for homework and it will be handed out this week-the pupils chose the tasks to include and I have made the grid.

We are getting back into the swing of hard work and pupils are required to read for enjoyment and revise times tables as I think they have been lost somewhere in the summer holidays 🙂 we have been doing a lot of mental maths, volume and area revision and problem solving challenges too….

FULL PE kit is required in school as well as a stocked pencil case!

Word work, maths and reading will be given out as soon as we are organised.

P1 Homework and Information Wk Beginning 4/9/17

Primary 1 coped well with the two longer days last week and managed the lunch hall really well. I hope they are not too tired!

Sounds: This week the sounds are as identified in the letter issued last week – so sounds P,I,N. I will teach them in class, one-a-day. It was good to see how hard they worked with their homework. Please encourage them to do a whole line of the letter practice.

Reading: Please ensure your child’s reading book is sent in every day with the red record card. These wordless books will be changed more regularly than when they move onto books with words.

Other Events:

Music: This term we will have music every week with Mrs Callaghan.

PE: Is on Tuesday and Wednesday – all children must have a t-shirt and shorts/leggings to change into for PE.

P1 Curriculum Evening: Tuesday 5th September,  5.30 -6.30pm. It will be lovely to see you all if you can make it.

School Photographer: Wednesday:6th September: please make sure your child is wearing school uniform that day. Sibling photographs will be taken if the sibling is in school or nursery – this will be organised in school.

Outdoor Learning: Thursday 7th and Friday 8th September: P1 will be involved in Outdoor Learning.  Small groups will work in the woodland beside the school with children from St. Margaret’s and led by Sean Fallon (Outdoor Education Leader) and a member of school staff. Each child will have a letter explaining which day they are going. On the day they are going they do not need to wear school uniform but waterproof clothing and boots is required. They will still have lunch at school as normal and they will require a snack as usual.

NB: The children will finish school on Thursday 14th September for the holiday weekend and return on Tuesday 19th September

P3 Homework for week beginning 28th August

Primary 3 Homework – Week Beginning 28th August

Homework this term will be set and collected on Tuesdays.

As the new year begins it will help us all to get some practice going over the basics.

With homework activities that are not written down (e.g. the maths games) please could you write a note in your homework jotter to tell me what you did.

Thanks very much!

Mr Buchan

Numeracy

Play “Number Bonds Tennis”. This is where one person says a number between 0 – 10 and their partner has to respond with the number that would add up for 10. For example, 5 -> 5 or 0 -> 10 etc. See how fast you can go without making mistakes!

Practise counting forwards out loud in 2s, 5s and 10s.

Reading

Everybody has new reading books. Please read the pages indicated on your bookmarks.

If possible, please could you read some of the pages out loud to an adult.

Spelling – Please practise these common words:

the                   that

of                     are

and                  for

you                  was

A great method is to look, say, cover, write and then check each word. This is how we will practise in class. Please try to practise each word twice in this way.

Try to make up a sentence that uses three of the words from this week’s list.

High School information for P7

It is hard to believe that this time next year you will be in S1 at your chosen High School.  Both Beeslack and Lasswade have open evenings coming up which all P7 parents are invited to.  The information is below

Lasswade: There is a current S1 Information Evening planned for Thursday 7 September .  There is also an S1 Parents’ Family Learning Evening on Tuesday 3 October and on Wednesday 1 November, there is a P7 Information Evening.  Parents’ Evenings generally commence at 5.00 pm- this would be the most beneficial one to attend.

Beeslack:

Open evening – The evening includes a tour of the school, an opportunity to meet teachers and for current pupils to share with you some of their learning experiences. The evening is generally well attended and visitors chave commented on the wecoming atmosphere and the strong realtionships evident between pupils and staff.

Our next open evening is on Thursday the 12th of October 2017 from 6.30-8.30pm (LOANHEAD PARENTS CONSULTATION).  They have also recently updated their website with some great info about transition, travel and school handbook http://www.beeslackhigh.co.uk/page/?title=School+Information&pid=7

There will always be reading and spelling and initially (starting from next week) the children will be asked to revise their learn its. More numeracy homework may be handed out as and when additional numeracy support is needed.
