p3 Homework 22/01/2019

Hi all,

Apologies for the written homework not returning last week, unfortunately I was off work ill at the start of the week. I hope everyone had a fantastic time over the holidays and that your children are enjoying being back in the swing of things in school.

As usual homework will go out on Tuesday and be returned the following Monday.

Missing Jotters and Folders

Upon organising the homework I noticed quite a few children are missing jotters or folders which makes it difficult to ensure that all the children are getting their homework and keeping their things together without going missing. If you find  child does have a missing jotter could you send me in a little note and I will get them a new one and similarly with the reading folders as I can provide a poly pocket for them to use.

Spelling

This weeks spelling pattern is the long o vowel sound made using ‘oa’ ‘o_e’ and ‘ow’ as in boat, stone and bow. These can be found on Spelling list 16 on the new spelling words issued this week.

Can I ask that you are getting the children to also write a minimum of three sentences as well as practicing their spelling words as good sentence structure is something many of the children are not using within class. Your children should now be aware of vocabulary including adjectives, nouns, proper nouns and verbs as well as punctuation including full stops, question marks, exclamation marks, commas and speech marks and are encouraged to use these within their writing.

Maths

As normal select a task from the home learning wall. Please remember to colour in tasks after you have done them so I can see what you have done at home and know when to issue a new home learning wall.

P5 Homework w/c 7.1.19

Happy New Year!

Welcome back and hope everyone has enjoyed a restful holiday. A huge thank you for your generosity to both Mrs Roy and myself for all the Christmas gifts.

We got off to busy start to the term on Tuesday writing our New Year Resolutions for 2019 and hope to make this year another memorable and fun learning experience for all.

As we enjoy a week of celebrating all things Scottish, pupils have chosen a poem to learn and recite in class next week. Two pupils will then be chosen to go forward to represent P5 in the Loanhead PS Scottish Poetry Competition on Friday 25th January 2019. Pupils chose from the following three poems:

  • Postie, by JK Annand
  • Heron, by JK Annand
  • The Sair Finger, by Walter Wingate

P5 will also be learning both ‘O’Flower of Scotland’ and ‘Auld Lang Syne’ during class time and will enjoy singing these with the whole school during our up and coming assemblies.

The only other homework this week will be our normal 10 spelling words and associated activity cards.

Spelling: everyone now seems familiar with the spelling activity cards with pupils enjoying the variety of activities and option to complete as much as schedules permit. All pupils are aware of the homework expectation but I would remind parents to initial or sign homework jotters to prove that red activities have been complete.

Up and coming events:

Tuesday 22nd January to Tuesday 5th March 2019 Pupil Talks (details to follow)

Wednesday 6th February 2019 Parent Consultations, 17:30 – 20.30pm

Thursday 7th February 2019 Parent Consultations, 15:30 – 17.30pm

Monday 11th February – Friday 15th February 2019 – Holiday

PE – Tuesdays and Thursdays

Finally, a reminder that children should have a pair of indoor shoes to change into. This ensures the floors are kept clean, in particular classroom carpets where children sit when sharing news etc.

Many thanks for your support,

Mrs Watts & Mrs Roy

HOMEWORK

Spelling

Our sound this week is -air (hair, chair, stair etc). Spelling homework is as usual.

Numeracy

Quite a few children are concerned that they don’t have time to complete this alongside everything else. Can I stress that it is only one brick on the wall a week and this can be done during the week or even the weekend as I don’t check jotters until the following Monday. I really encourage personalisation and choice in learning and hope this learning wall approach to numeracy homework allows for that.

Homework w/c 19/11/18

Hi all,

We had a fantastic turn out today for our pyjama day for Children in Need.Thank you for all of your donations and support. When I know the total I will let you know but it was great fun!

Book Week

This week in school is book week! Throughout the week if your child has a favourite book or a book they are reading at home as we will be partaking in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) and  will be reading at regular intervals throughout the day.

Just a quick reminder that Thursday is a dress up day in school and children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. I have my costume prepped and at the ready!

Homework

Finally as it is book week this is a good opportunity to share our favourite stories with each other therefore I am asking that children prepare a short talk of 2-3 minutes on their favourite book. Information should include:

  • The book title and author
  • Why they like the book and their favourite part of the story
  • Their favourite character and least favourite character and why.

I will hear the talks on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Children can present with notes, power points or drawings if they choose but it is not essential.

Spelling

Our spelling sound this week for homework is ou as in u eg double, trouble country etc.

Maths

This week I will also be sending home a large yellow homework jotter which contains a home learning wall similar to the spelling menu. Again children are asked to complete one brick on the wall each week and colour it in red, yellow or green based on understanding.  As some of the activities are practical and may not be able to be evidenced in the jotter pictures may be stuck in to the jotters or just a short note to let me know how they got on.
