P7 News W.B 2nd September 2019

Hi all,

Congratulations to our new House Captains! Everyone who participated in this process  should be immensely proud of themselves as it is no mean feat, making a speech in front of a large audience. However, to those not chosen on this occasion, there are many other fun roles to be given out in P7 so hopefully, everyone will get a job that suits them.

House Captains-

Dryden = FrC and CK.

Gladhouse =  TJM and ZM.

Edgelaw = LD and WL.

P7 Info W.B 26th August 2019

Hi all,

Info for this week:

Monday – Music and Choir ( for those wishing to take part)

Tuesday – PE

Wednesday – PE and Mandarin

Meet the Teacher @ 3:15pm to 4pm. Pop in for a chat!

Thursday– Rugby

House Captain speeches. Good luck to all taking part! Remember to practise!

Friday – Results of House Captain votes

Homework – We discussed homework last week and after a short survey, it’s safe to say children generally have a negative view of this! Extra work carried out at home really should be useful, relevant, motivating and develop independent study skills. With this in mind, I have decided not to send home spelling or reading work as we will cover this in depth in class. I’d rather children read for pleasure at home. However, there is so much maths and numeracy to cover in P7 that there will be a task related to this each week, typically issued on a Tuesday. In addition, there may be research tasks related to topic work or preparation for pupil talks/presentations.  Homework will now be rebranded as ‘Independent Study’.

Risk Factory – Each year P7 visit the Risk Factory. P7 visit the following week on Wednesday 4th September. Children should bring a packed lunch as we may be late back for the dining hall. There has always been superb feedback about this trip in previous years.  Permission letters will be sent home on Monday.

What happens at The Risk Factory? (from their website)
“The Risk Factory is based on the principle that learning by experience is more memorable than being told what to do.  At The Risk Factory pupils are put into scenarios that they could face in everyday life and asked to identify risks and are taught strategies that could help save not only their own lives but other peoples’.  Coming to The Risk Factory allows them to make mistakes but in a safe environment where they can learn from their mistakes.”

Welcome to P7- August 2019

Welcome to P7!

I hope everyone had a great summer and managed to get some relaxing down time. I’m really looking forward to seeing everyone back on Monday; bright, cheery and full of enthusiasm for this important year ahead!

Homework will begin next week (26th) and there will be more information about this soon. However, those who wish to win votes to become a House Captain this year, may want to start working on their speeches! Their presentations to the house teams will be on Thursday 29th August with the results revealed the following day. Children are allowed to make two promotional posters to pin up around the school.

PE is to be confirmed, although likely to be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays with Mrs Duncan so can children ensure they have a full kit to change into.

Please remember indoor shoes!

Finally, a massive thanks for all the lovely gifts given to me at the end of last term; these really are appreciated.

If you need to contact me, my email is S.Brunt@mgfl.net.

Thank you,

Ms S Brunt

P7 news and information May/June

I cannot believe that in a matter of weeks P7 will be leaving us to go onwards and upwards towards their High School destinations.  But before they leave, we have a massive to-do list.

We still have the Island homework block to be completing for each Wednesday.

YEARBOOKS – £9, All pupils have specified that they would like a yearbook for their memories at Loanhead.  I am organising this but need some first day of school photos and baby photos please.  Can the order forms and payment be put in an envelope marked with pupil name on it and given to Mrs Hinton and not the office.

We are having a P7 Enterprise Day on Monday 10th of June, profits are going towards props for the leavers’ assembly as well as funding part of the yearbook.

Info about yearbooks and Virgin Money £5 enterprise challenge have went home.

Transition days – Beeslack and Lasswade  are 12th, 13th and 14th of June.  Both schools have parents evenings with blazer fittings on the 13th.

Leavers events:

Parent night – in school, organised by class parents, not PC. Tuesday 25th June,

Leavers’ Assembly – Wednesday 26th of June after lunch

Leavers’ day – Dominion cinema and McDonalds – Thursday 27th June

Final day – finish at 12 noon on Friday 28th June – pupils to be met from classroom door.  Previous years parents have organised a piper but this is not organised by the school. Please let Mrs Hinton know if this is organised.

Thanks again for all your support

In class I have been trying to include a variety of logic puzzles to encourage deeper thinking.  We have been doing the good old logic grid puzzles this week logic puzzle tutorial

ONLINE AND COMPUTER SAFETY UPDATE

Safety Online!

Screen Addiction

e-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Loanhead Primary School . We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any e-Safety incidents are recorded and managed.  e-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.

We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.

Recently, many of the children have been talking about the Momo challenge and have been increasingly worried about it.  Like many of these online phenomenon the publicity and hype has made this a lot bigger than it needs to be.  For a quick briefing on it see the link below.

MOMO INFO

It’s essential to be realistic – banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is essential.
