Here is the homework for the week.
Spelling – New list as usual.
Reading – We’re reading poetry books in school.
Pupil Talks/Kids Teach – Children should be preparing their presentations/lessons at home. I’ll catch up with everyone as to what they’re doing, what resources/spaces are needed and pencil in a date and time.
Bikeability return slips should now be in.
PE is on Tuesday and Thursday.

Spelling – New list as usual.
Reading – We’re reading poetry books in school so no books will be sent home.
Numeracy – I’ve put a new challenge on Sumdog. It’s a decimal challenge with 100 coins to get.
Pupil Talks/Kids Teach – As we don’t have enough time to do both, children will choose to do either a Pupil Talk or plan and teach the class a short lesson. Children can work in pairs if they wish. Some children are champing at the bit to get started. More information will follow on Tuesday. Everyone will get a couple of weeks to prepare.
PE is on Tuesday and Thursday.
Reminder – Next Monday (6th) is a holiday and the school is closed to pupils and staff.

Hi all,
Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing break and that this recent glorious weather stays around for a long time.
The final term is here, with a couple of Monday holidays in May for the pupils. Time seems to have whizzed past. We have such a lot of learning to squeeze in: with mini science topics such as Electricity, Space and Living and Growing; a historical look back in time studying The Jacobites; the annual Poetry Competition, Health Week with Sports Day , Bikeabilty, a Novel Study, Pupil Talks and/or Kids teach; the Summer Fair… the list seems to go on!
Homework this week consists of spelling only. There will be lots of information to follow about other events and tasks when required.
Children will continue to read daily in class, choosing from a set range of novels this term and there will also be poetry homework soon.
Housekeeping
It would be very helpful if children can come to school prepared with writing pencils, rubbers, sharpeners, coloured pens etc. Everyone is required to bring indoor shoes and a full PE kit. At the moment, PE is on Tuesday and Thursdays. Children should only have water to drink in class although may bring juice as part of a packed lunch.

Hi all,
It’s the final week of term. There will be no homework set but here is a quick reminder of events this week.
Debates – Round 3 starts this week and will occur on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Children will get time on Monday to practise with their group. Next term, children will be asked to prepare another Pupil Talk on any subject (with a partner if so wished). A further talking and listening challenge will be ‘Kids Teach’ where children plan and prepare a lesson of their choice to teach to the whole class. I’m just giving children plenty of time in advance to start thinking about these two projects.
Wednesday – Dr Bike visits Loanhead so P6 can bring in their bikes to get checked over.
Thursday evening – Easter Event – tickets on sale now or can be bought at the door.
Friday – Children will walk from school up to the local church for an Easter service.
Term ends Friday 5th April @12:25pm.
All resume Tuesday 23rd April.

Homework this week:
Spelling – There’s a new spelling list this week.
Reading – Everyone will read for a minimum of 20 minutes per day in class. Please bring in new reading material if finished previous book in class.
Debates – The third round of debates will be launched this week with new teams and new topics. This time, children will have to take on imagined roles as members of the public or members of a company. The subjects are very much topical but the corporations involved are fictional. Information to follow on Tuesday.
Topic – Europe. If anyone has any books, photos or brochures regarding European destinations we would love to see these in class.
PE – Tuesday and Thursday.
Hockey – for some P6 children is on Tuesday.
Girls’ Football is on Thursday afternoon – for those participating, please bring a packed lunch.
Library – Can children please bring their library books back for returns only. Sadly Janis and Christine, who have run the school library for years are now hanging up their stampers! A massive thank you goes out to these wonderful ladies for giving up so much of their own time to encourage reading at Loanhead Primary. The library has grown from a few hundred books to thousands!

Homework this week:
Spelling – There’s a new spelling list this week plus practice and practise.
Reading – Everyone will read for a minimum of 20 minutes per day in class. Please bring in new reading material if previous book is finished in class.
Debates – The second bout of debates will happen this week with new teams and new topics. Groups will get time to confer on Monday then one debate will take place on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Good luck teams!
Maths –A new worksheet on volume will be given out on Tuesday. Numeracy – on the other side of this sheet, there will be multiply and divide by 10, 100 and 1000, including decimal places.
Topic – Europe. If anyone has any books, photos or brochures regarding European destinations we would love to see these in class. Last week, we analysed flags to collate similarities and differences. We researched individual countries and will create a European Top Trumps style game. This week, we’ll also do a little work on exchange rates in numeracy.
PE – Tuesday and Thursday. PLEASE BRING A FULL PE KIT! This week, I will issue letters home to those who keep telling me they have lost their kit!

Homework this week:
Spelling – There’s a new spelling list this week plus affect and effect.
Writing – 500 words. Deadline time! The annual Radio 2 writing competition is upon us and closes on the 8th March so there’s not much time for us budding authors to get our stories written. I’d like this to be a flexible home/school task whereby children will get ample time in school to work on this and can save their text onto USB sticks or I can email stories back and forth so that these can be worked on at home too.
Reading – Everyone will read for a minimum of 20 minutes per day in class.
Debates –Groups will get together and practise on Monday. One debate on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. New topics next week!
Numeracy – children will get a worksheet home on Tuesday to be handed in the following Monday.
Ski-ing – Wednesday. Final week!

Safety Online!
e-Safety is an important part of keeping children safe at Loanhead Primary School . We have extensive security measures in place in school, which are monitored both internally and externally, to help safeguard pupils from potential dangers or unsuitable material. Any e-Safety incidents are recorded and managed. e-Safety is taught to all pupils explaining and demonstrating how to stay safe and behave appropriately online.
We can only be successful in keeping children safe online if we work with parents to ensure the e-Safety message is consistent. It is important that parents speak to their children about how they can keep safe and behave appropriately online.
Recently, many of the children have been talking about the Momo challenge and have been increasingly worried about it. Like many of these online phenomenon the publicity and hype has made this a lot bigger than it needs to be. For a quick briefing on it see the link below.

It’s essential to be realistic – banning the internet or technology will not work and it often makes a child less likely to report a problem. Education around safe use is essential.
