P2 Homework w.b 5.11.18

Hello,

The children have their flu vaccinations tomorrow, Monday 5th November.

Also, Nativity will kickstart tomorrow with some auditions! The children will have the opportunity to audition for a speaking part in the Nativity. We will also begin learning the songs this week, too.

Homework for this week:

Reading: Please check your child’s green reading record for the pages.

Spelling: This week we are learning the ‘ll’ sound, therefore the spelling list will contain words with this sound.

Numeracy: Please complete the BIG Maths worksheet that is in your child’s bookbag. It contains a variety of numeracy questions (halving, addition, and subtraction).

Thank you,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b 29.10.18

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder that your child should be bringing their book bag to school every day so they have their reading books, and we can put any letters etc in them.

This week I will be going over the children’s keywords for their reading stage (these were the words that were sent home last week). Therefore, children may come home with a new stage book next week.

Homework for this week:

Spelling: This week we are learning the ‘ff’ sound, therefore their spelling list will have words containing this sound. Please support your child in learning these by writing them into their spelling jotter and practising other activities that are suggested in their jotter.

Reading: Reading pages will be written into their reading records. I will also be putting in a reading strategy bookmark into the children’s book bags. We have tried most of these strategies during our reading groups, so children should be familiar with them. These strategies can be used when the children are stuck with a word in their book. (For example, Chunky Monkey – split the word into manageable chunks and then blend together, flat –  fl-at).

From next week onwards, the children will also be given a numeracy task to complete each week.

Hope you are having a lovely weekend,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b 21/10/18

Hi all,

I hope you are having a lovely, restful holiday and I can’t wait to see you all again on Tuesday.

Please remember to give your child their P.E kit on Tuesday as we have P.E that day.

The children had their harvest assembly on Friday and it went so well! They had a lot of fun performing it for the whole school. I will post pictures from it this week once I am back in school.

Here is the homework for the coming week;

Reading: Please read the pages that have been written in your child’s green reading record for that date. Children will also be given a list of words to learn. These lists will be the key words that are for the stage they are reading at – the words will appear frequently in their books. Please support your child in learning these words, they can do activities like the ones suggested for their spelling homework to help. Children must be able to read these words quickly in order to move up a stage in their reading books.

Spelling: This week we will still be looking at short vowel sounds (for example,  tap and cat). Therefore, their spelling list will contain a mix of tricky words and days of the week.

It has been so lovely hearing all of the children’s seashore talks, they have worked so hard on them. We had such a hectic week last week with the harvest assembly that we will hear the rest of the talks this week.

Thank you,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b 8/10/18

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder that the seashore talks are to be ready for Wednesday so the children can share them this week before the holidays.

P1/2 have their Harvest Assembly on Friday, so it is going to be a busy week of practising and making costumes. Children who have been picked for speaking parts will receive their lines home to learn this week!

Spelling: This week we will be learning the short vowel sounds so the spelling list will contain some days of the week and tricky words to practise.

Reading: Please check your child’s green reading record for the pages they have to complete this week for homework.

Numeracy: This term we have been focusing on numbers to 100 and the numbers that come before, after and in between. Please help your children with counting forwards and backwards from 100 but not always starting at the same number. For example, start at 60 and count backward to 30 etc.

Parents Evening:

Wednesday – Parents Evening from 17:30

Thursday – Parents Evening from 15:30

I will send the children’s PE kits home this week for washing. These have to be returned on Tuesday 22nd October, when the children return, for PE on this day.

Finally, the half-term break is almost here! We finish at the usual time of 12:25pm. I wish you all a safe and fun half term break.

Thank you for all your support this term,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b 1/10/18

Hi all,

Happy October, I can’t believe how quickly time is flying by!

A massive thank you to everyone who came along on Friday to our cake morning, we raised a total of £37 for Macmillian Cancer Support! The children had a lot of fun making and eating the cakes!

On Monday (1st October) the children have a 30-minute Judo Taster at 11am.

Parent appointment slips were put into the children’s bookbags on Friday (28th) – if you have not received one then please let me know and I will get a new one to you. The children were also given their seashore talk letter on Thursday, again, if you do not have one then please let me know.

Here is the homework for this week:

Reading: Please complete the pages that are written in your child’s green reading record for that day.

Spelling: This week we are learning the ‘ar’ sound and this will be the next list of words they have to practise.

I hope you have all had a lovely weekend,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w/b 24/9/18

Hi all,

This Friday (28th) is Macmillan Coffee Morning so on Thursday afternoon, the children will be making and decorating cakes for this. I would like to invite you to join P2 in their coffee morning on Friday from 12pm. You are all welcome to come in from 12pm until the end of the day at 12:25pm for some cake! I will pop a reminder about it on the door and any questions please catch me at the end of the day to ask!

Just a gentle reminder to bring filled parent evening slips back as I will be organising appointments later this week.

Here is the homework for this week.

Reading: Please complete the pages written in the reading records.

Spelling: This week we will be learning the “qu” sound. This is the next list in their spelling jotters to practise.

Also, I am going to put a letter in the children’s book bags on Tuesday about topic homework, the children will be asked to prepare a talk on their chosen seashore animal. The letter will explain this in more detail.

Thank you,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b 17/9/18

Apologises that the homework update is a little late in being posted this week.

For this week, the children will also have numeracy homework in their book bags – this has also to be completed for Friday and will be handed out today (Wednesday).

Reading: Please complete the pages written inside your child’s reading record.

Spelling: This week we are learning the ‘ng’ sound, this should be the next list in your child’s jotter. Along with writing their spelling words in their jotter, children can also practise their words in bubbles, sand etc – to make learning them more fun and engaging! (In class, we like to use whiteboards and play dough!)

Numeracy – For homework, they have a worksheet that has various questions on it – e.g. half of 8 is. Please complete this for Friday!

On days when there is no  homework please encourage your child to read something that they enjoy, so they are still gaining this reading practice.

Thank you,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b 10/9/18

Hello!

Just a reminder that the school photographer will be in on Wednesday!

Primary 2 will still have P.E on a Tuesday and a Thursday with me on a Tuesday and Mrs. Wallace on a Thursday. This commencing week is ‘Schools Fitness Week’ – this was created by Joe Wicks (more commonly known as The BodyCoach), and he will be creating a new 20 minute HIIT workout over three days for schools to take part in, so I am looking forward to taking part in this and keeping the children (and myself) fit.

Additionally, this coming week is  ‘Maths Week Scotland’ so I am going to join our class on SumDog and I have lots of fun maths activities planned for the week. (The children should all have their own individual SumDog logins in their bookbags! If not, let me know and I can get you a copy.)

Reading – The children will have reading homework on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night. The pages for this will be written inside of their green reading records.

Spelling – This week we will be learning thethsound. I will put a copy of their spelling list inside their spelling jotter for them to practice through different activities (there should be an example list inside this jotter).

Also, Primary 2 will be starting their IDL topic this week which is Seashore! It’s going to be a very busy and fun week!
