P2 Homework w.b. 20.1.20

Hi all,

I hope you are all well! I just wanted to take a moment to say how impressed I am at how quickly the class have settled back into the school routine. They have been working so hard over the past 2 weeks and I am one very proud teacher!!

Just a reminder that children will be reciting their chosen Scots poem to the class on Monday/Tuesday. Then two children will be picked to perform their poem at the Burns assembly on Friday 24th. The parents/carers of the chosen children will be informed and invited to attend the assembly.

Learning Trio appointment slips are going out on Wednesday 22nd January, they will be put in your child’s book bag. If you cannot make your allocated time or require a change then please contact the school office to do this.

We started rugby on Thursday afternoon with Bradley, and the children had a very fun time. The class will have rugby for the next two Thursday afternoons too.

Homework:

Reading: I have been busy assessing the children and changing reading groups, so some children may have a different stage to read next week. Please continue to support your child with learning their key words (these are only required from Stage 1 – Stage 5). The pages to be read have been written in your child’s green reading record.

Spelling: We are learning magic e with o (o_e), for example, bone, cone and stone.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lauren Waller

P2 Homework w.b. 13.1.20

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder that your child has two Scottish poems in their book bag (Mince and Tatties, and Doctor). Your child should pick one which they wish to learn and the children will have a chance to recite this in front of the class on Monday 20th January. Please ensure your child has chosen and had a chance to practice the poem by this date and then some children will be picked to recite their poem at the assembly on Friday 24th January.

P.E. this week will be Monday and Wednesday morning, please ensure your child has full P.E. kit for this.

This coming week (13.1.20) I will be assessing children with their reading and key words, so over the next few weeks some children may move groups and stages in their reading books.

Rugby was unforunately cancelled this week, but as far as I am aware, it will be back on for next week.

We are moving onto money this term in maths – looking at coins up to £2! If children have real life experience with handling money in shops etc. then this would be great to hear about in class.

Reading: The pages to be read have been written in your child’s green reading record. Please encourage your child to read with expression, this is a big focus in our reading groups this term.

Spelling: This week we are looking at magic e with i(i_e). The spelling list contains (i_e) words and tricky words.

As always, please never hesitate to contact me: L.Waller@mgfl.net

P2 Homework w.b. 7.1.20

Welcome back!!

I hope you all had a lovely winter break and a very happy new year. It was so lovely to see all the pupils again today and hear all of their wonderful Christmas news 🙂

P2 are going to be getting a few sessions of rugby from Bradley on Thursday afternoons, starting this week, from 1:45 – 2:30. Please ensure your child has a full P.E. kit for this.

Homework will be given out tomorrow (Wednesday 8th) and it will consist of reading and spelling homework. In addition to this, I have put two Scots’ poems into book bags and children have to choose one to learn for the Burns competition on the week beginning 20.1.20.

Reading: Pages to be read have been written into your child’s green reading record. Please sign beside each night when homework has been completed.

Spelling: This week we will start learning all about magic ‘e’ (my favourite!!!) and this week it is a with magic ‘e’. Magic ‘e’ in words is silent and it turns the vowel into its long vowel sound. For example, mad – made, car – care, cap – cape. Therefore, this weeks spelling list contains magic ‘e’ with a words.

Thank you,

Miss Lauren Waller (L.Waller@mgfl.net)

*Foodbank donations for our Friday church service*

After the success of our donations to the food bank last year for the church service, we have decided to organise the same again this year.  We ask that pupils bring a non perishable item for The Food Bank (January) with them to carry down to church on the last day of term.  Items in demand include:

P2 Homework w.b. 9.12.19

Just a reminder that the P1/2 Nativity is on Monday 9th December at 2pm in the large hall. Please remember there is a limit of 2 guests per child as the hall space is limited. The children put on an AMAZING performance on Friday and I have no doubt that they will repeat this tomorrow. They have made me so proud with their hard work, dedication and enthusiasm.

P1/2 Christmas party is  next week (Tuesday 17th December) in the afternoon. The cost of the party is £2 and this can be handed into me or the school office by the end of the week, please.

This Tuesday (10th December) is Christmas jumper day and donations would be greatly appreciated to go towards our sponsorship of schooling for two children in Africa. It is also Christmas lunches!

We have our Christmas show on Wednesday 11th December 10:00- 11:00 from the company ‘Funbox’.

On Friday, P2/3 are going to the local residential home to do some carol singing. Your child may bring in a Christmas jumper and/or Christmas accessories to wear for this.

To keep things as ‘routine’ as possible, I am still going to be doing reading homework this week! Please check your child’s green reading record for the pages to be read. There will be no spelling homework as we are going to be revising the sounds we have already learned.

I am looking forward to seeing you on Monday! Hope you have had a wonderful weekend,

Miss Lauren Waller (L.Waller@mgfl.net)

P2 Homework w.b. 2.12.19

It was lovely to see so many of you at the Christmas fair on Friday afternoon. I can’t believe we only have 3 weeks of the term left, and they are jam packed!

Just a reminder that P1/2 will be performing their Nativity for parents/carers on Monday 9th December @ 2pm. There is a limit of 2 guests per child due to limited space in the hall. Please could children bring in their Christmas jumpers/t-shirts and/or accessories in this week, so we have them for our costume rehearsals on Wed/Thurs. Thank you.

A gentle reminder that the cost of the P1/2 Christmas party is £2 and this should be brought into school in an envelope, clearly labelled with your child’s name. The party is in the afternoon on Tuesday 17th December and Santa will be attending at 2:30pm. Please feel free to join us then for a wonderful photo opportunity!

P2 Homework w.b. 25.11.19

Hi all,

If your child does not have a speaking part for the Nativity (if they didn’t bring any lines home), could they please bring in a Christmas jumper/t-shirt and/or Christmas accessories to wear on the day. This is including the four Narrators. Children can begin to bring this in from next week so we have all the costumes ready! We have sourced and sorted out costumes for all of the speaking parts, so nothing is needed for them. Just a reminder that the Nativity for the parents is on Monday 9th December at 2pm in the large hall. There is a limit of two guests per child due to limited space in the hall.

The Christmas Fair is on Friday (29th) at 12:30pm – 2pm. We are looking for toys in good condition, unwanted gifts, bottles for the bottle tombola and chocolate for the chocolate tombola. On the day and days leading up to this we will also be collecting your delicious home baking! The lower atrium (P1-4) are also creating a ‘Pamper Hamper’ that can be won on the day, we are collecting donations for this – bubble bath, face masks etc.

The P1/2 Christmas party is on Tuesday 17th December – please remember that children can bring in a change of clothes for this and they can get changed after lunch. The party is £2 per child and this can be brought in from next week in a sealed envelope, cleared labelled with your child’s name. Santa will be coming to visit the children at 2:30pm, and you are more than welcome to join us for this!

Primary 2 were given ‘Read, Write, Count’ bags on Friday to take home and they are fabulous. They are filled with some wonderful resources and books that you can use with your children to promote literacy and numeracy skills. Here is a link to the website that explains it a little more and has some wonderful ideas for you: https://www.scottishbooktrust.com/topics/read-write-count

Homework:

Reading: Please check your child’s green reading record for the pages to be read.

Spelling: This week we are learning the ‘ss’ and ‘zz’ sound. Please ensure your child completes the full list in their jotter. We are also learning to write in cursive, so please encourage your child to do this with their words.

Numeracy: This week I am going to be sending out a worksheet on numbers to 100 before, after and between. We worked a lot on this at the start of the year, so this is just a revision task. This is also to be completed for Friday.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Lauren Waller (L.Waller@mgfl.net)
