P5 Week Beginning 1/11/21

Dear Parents and Carers,

Children who were signed up for Flu vaccination were given this today.

This week:

Reading – please see reading book for homework.

Spelling – please see spelling jotter for the pattern or sound they are learning. I have changed some of the spelling, there is still a requirement for children to do sentences and to learn their spelling pattern. As there are more words in the list I have suggested they focus on the words that they are not so sure about.

P.E. is as usual on Tuesday and Thursday afternoon.

Wednesday we have Mandarin as normal.

As COP26 is currently on in Glasgow we will be doing some activities around this to help the children understand climate change and the impact it is having on our planet.

I have signed our class up to do a few online workshops over the next few weeks, these will, I hope be interesting and informative for the children. This week we are doing the following:

Tuesday: Threats to Nature (from the World Wildlife Fund)

Friday: ‘School of Fish’ which is an art session using recycling but also learning about the ocean.

Please send in any tetra pak cartons you have, we are still collecting them for the session on Friday.

Parent consultations are on Wednesday and Friday this week. Appointment times went home today, if the time does not suit you please contact the school office.

If you have requested a telephone appointment these will take place the following week.

Many thanks,

Lisa Cumming

✨P1 News and information 1/11/21 🍁

This week on Monday we have the flu nasal vaccine.

✨In the topic of world religions we will be learning about Diwali which is Thursday.

We will also be focussing on firework safety and our buddies are doing and assembly about it for us on Friday. 🎆

🧮Numeracy: We are looking at adding within 10 using various strategies.  We are also learning to recognise a number as its numeral, name and amount of dots on a ten frame.

✏️Phonics: Our sound this week is “e” like elephant.  We now know s,a,t,i,p,n,c,k,e and are learning to make CVC words with these (consonant, vowel, consonant e.g. Pen) Practising this at home would be beneficial.

Home learning:  Not many people accessed the seesaw activity, this can be found on the seesaw class app.  The seesaw family app is the learning journal.  Reading books will go home on Tuesday.  I have assessed children’s key words for stage 1 and 2 and these will also go home to practise.

📗I know children are keen to learn, it is amazing that they are keen to read but please do not purchase the ORT books we read in school as the children memorise these by picture and are not progressing through the scheme by learning key words etc.  I have assessed key words and I am sending home new stage 1 and 2 flashcards and a copy of the assessments so you know which to work on with your child.  The flashcards etc do not need to come into school each day.

Learning trios/ Parent consultations are Wednesday and Friday, unless otherwise arranged.  Please contact me if you cannot make your time and we can arrange for another day.  Your child is expected to attend with ONE ADULT ONLY.  This is due to COVID restrictions.

P7 Info w/b Monday 1st November

Hi all,

🎽 PE  – Monday and Wednesday – please come to school dressed for PE outdoors. Remember to bring a water bottle for hydration.

Bud Bus – Visits Loanhead P7 on Monday 1st November. Children get to learn all about the annual poppy appeal and its history.

🚴‍♀️ Bikeability – Group 1 have their final session on Monday 1st November.  These are: LC , CR, LBar, SW, EvT, AR, IG, JM and CG.

Parents Eve/Afternoon: Children will bring an appointment slip home on Monday 1st Nov. If this appointment is unsuitable, then please get in touch with the school office. Please remember that if you wish to change your appointment to a phone call, this will be on a different day, and not Wednesday or Friday. Please note, if you are attending a face to face appointment, that it should only be yourself and your child at the appointment. We will be using the classroom door as our entrance/exit, keeping a safe distance, wiping down surfaces and wearing masks to keep everyone safe.

👐PEER MEDIATION TRAINING – P7 will be trained to be peer mediators during sessions run by Tara Larkin, every Tuesday. Once trained, children can volunteer to take turns to be peer mediators in the playground – this means they can help to sort out any disputes between younger pupils.

🏠Homework :

📝Spelling –  Please hand in completed work on Friday. Please ensure all writing is neat.

Research task – A task about poppies will be issued on Tuesday  ( paper form or on Google Classroom). P7 will lead an assembly on this soon.

📚Reading – Can every child please have a personal reading text in school for such times when children may read quietly.
