Primary 6 and I just wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to you all for your wonderful donations.
We raised £264.37 for Children in Need, how amazing!!
Thank you all so much,

Hello everyone!
Christmas – Dates for your diary
Not to alarm anyone… but it is just over a month ’til C.H.R.I.S.T.M.A.S !!! Due to covid guidelines we, unfortunately, are still unable to have a Christmas show. However, we will still be performing a festive song as a class which will be put together with the other year groups as a Merry Christmas from Loanhead. P3 have chosen to sing Wizzard’s ” I wish it could be Christmas everyday” . This will be recorded by Loanhead’s own tech ‘Wizzard’ Mrs Hinton around about the 1st and 2nd week of December. If you could encourage your child to practise the words at home I would really appreciate it.

Carol Singing at the Horn
Loanhead PS are going to be carol singing at the horn at the bottom of Clerk St in December. Each class will take it in turns to perform. We invite you to come and watch your little ones sing. It’s not quite the same as performances in school but it is a step in the right direction. We don’t have specific dates for this yet as we have to timetable it but I will let you when dates and times are confirmed.
Xmas Party –
P3’s Christmas party will take place on the afternoon of the 15th of December. This will also be p3’s Christmas jumper day. I can’t wait to see your festive sweaters.
A quick reminder that we are finishing up on the 22nd of December this year. It has all come around so quick!
Loanhead Parish Church Gift Donations
Once again Loanhead are working with Loanhead Parish Church to bring Christmas present and a little bit more festive spirit to local families who may find this time of year financially challenging. I’m sure you will all agree that for many of us the past few years COVID has significantly impacted most families and everyone deserves a happy and magical festive season. Please see the flyer below for more information.
Loanhead Primary School will be one of the donation points for the church. Any donation of new gifts for children from birth to 15 are hugely appreciated and should be dropped off by the 10th of December.
Please do not feel pressured to contribute, give what you can afford. Remember even the smallest of things could make a child’s Christmas.
Homework
In class we use a behaviour management strategy called blurt beans. The children fill the jar with pebbles for excellent listening and kind words and at various milestones they earn a reward. You will remember recently we had our PJ day relating to this.
P3 have now achieved their next target which allows them a week’s homework pass. This means there is no reading or spelling homework this week. Reading and spelling will carry on in school as normal. I do still implore you to encourage your children to read for enjoyment this week. Whether it is books, magazines, comics, recipe books even just subtitles on the TV. Literacy and reading opportunities are everywhere.
That is all for this week.
As always feel free to contact if you have any questions or queries at:

Have a fabulous week,
Miss Ramsay
Parents and Carers,
I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. The weather has certainly started to feel a little chillier….please make sure your child has warm and waterproof outdoor clothing for break and lunch times. Also P.E. may or may not be outside so please ensure your child is equipped for in or outside P.E.
In line with our Covid prevention guidelines we are keeping our windows open at all times and the door open whenever it is necessary, with this in mind you may wish to send an extra layer which could remain on your child’s chair for cooler moments.
Thank you to everyone that donated to our Children in Need collection. I am not sure of the total amount raised but will let you know. The class did the Joe Wicks workout and quiz and P6 produced a lovely assembly for us all.
THIs WEEK:
Reading: please see individual reading books for pages.
Spelling: please see individual homework jotters.
Numeracy: Each child has a worksheet to complete based on using the near 10s strategy for addition. We have been doing this in class. This is to be returned on Friday.
P.E will be on Tuesday and Thursday as usual.
Mandarin is returning on Wednesday.
On Thursday we have a lovely opportunity – we are doing a singing workshop with NYCOS (National Youth Choir of Scotland).
Many thanks,
Lisa Cumming (l.cumming@midlothian.education)
Hi all,
PE – Monday and Wednesday – please come to school dressed for PE outdoors. Remember to bring a water bottle for hydration.
Bikeability – Group 2 have their next session on Monday 22nd November.
Lunches / Parent Pay – P7 can now select a pre-paid lunch from the school lunch hall. The menu should be posted on the school website very soon. Children are still welcome to bring in a packed lunch from home to be eaten in the classroom.
Reading – We have started to read a class novel called ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ . WW2 is our new topic. Can every child still have a personal reading text in school for such times when children may read quietly.
Wednesday 24th– The Bud Bus ( rescheduled from two weeks ago) will come to school for P7 to visit in groups.
Homework :
Spelling – Please hand in completed work on Friday. Please ensure all writing is neat.
Maths/Numeracy – I will post a new Sumdog challenge- starting 22.11.21.
That’s all for now,
Thank you,
Miss Brunt
Hello,
Primary 6 performed a wonderful assembly on Friday for Children in Need, and thank you so much to everyone for their wonderful donations. We are still counting and will hopefully have a final total later this week.
We have P.E. on Monday and Wednesday. On Monday, the children have P.E first thing in the morning instead of the afternoon. This will only be for this week.
Miss Sun will be back for Mandarin on Wednesday.
On Tuesday afternoon, we have another Dunedin consort workshop.
Homework will be handed out on Monday and should be handed in on Friday. This week, there will be spelling, reading and numeracy. This week, the numeracy task will involve revising our multiplication and division skills.
Please ensure your child can get logged into Google Classroom this week, as we hope to use this for homework going forward in Primary 6! If you have any issues with logging in, then please do get in touch. The children should be logging into Google and not GLOW.
Thank you all for your support.

Hello,
Book Week Scotland
Thank you to those children who shared their favourite story today in our show and tell for Book Week Scotland. If there are any pupils who haven’t shared their favourite story who would like to do so please could they bring a book in tomorrow (17th) or Thursday 18th.
I will be handing out book bags from Read Write Count tomorrow which include two new books and some activities for each pupil.
Please see the attached poster with information for a parent event on Monday 22nd November regarding the Read Write Count bag.
