P6 Info W/B 7th December 2020

Hi all,

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend.

PE  – Tuesday and Thursday – Children should come to school dressed for PE outdoors please.

Spelling – as normal

Numeracy – Times tables practice.  This week, we’ll link measure activities with decimals work –converting cm to mms and cm to metres.  Lots of practical ‘hands on’ measuring to be done.

December Activities

Christmas Cards – Children are now able to post Christmas cards to other pupils in school as we have a Covid friendly system in place. Envelopes should have names and classes written clearly on the front.

Christmas Song – P6 chose ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ to perform and film.

Christmas Activity Afternoon – Wear a Christmas jumper! Thursday 17th December. This costs£2  and covers food, prizes and a charitable donation. Thank you.

Pantos – We have two online Pantos to watch this year. We will watch the Brunton Theatre ‘Rapunzel’ performance this Thursday.

Mandarin – Children were so pleased to welcome back Miss Sun to teach Mandarin on Wednesday. Last week saw revision of greetings and numbers followed by a look at the Beijing Opera. Mandarin will continue on Wednesdays from now on.

Science – Again, children have been very enthusiastic, putting thoughts and ideas into practice with Mrs Cumming. Recently, we have been developing, testing and improving planes with ‘O’ wings. This has also allowed children to put maths into practice; measuring time, distance and ultimately working out speeds.

That’s all for now,

Miss Brunt

P3 Week beginning 7/12/20

Hi everyone,

-This week we will be recording to perform as part of the Loanhead PS Christmas celebration video which includes the p1&2 Nativity. We will be be performing Robbie William’s Can’t Stop Christmas. If you get a chance to practice this at home I would appreciate it.

  • Can I also ask if possible could the children bring in a festive jumper to wear for filming on Thursday.
  • The weather has took a turn. As we are still having to keep windows open during the day for ventilation I have been allowing children to keep their coats on. Lots of kids have opted to do this but are feeling quite uncomfortable. If it is possible for children to bring an additional hoodie or jumper to keep cosy that would be fab!
  • I have lot’s of Christmas card lists in class if any children would like one to write Christmas cards. Cards are being quarentined when brought into school to keep us all safe. If you would like one just get your little one to let me know.

SPELLING

Their spelling words are stapled into the blue homework jotter. These words need to be learnt and the children should look out for other words of the same spelling pattern when they are reading.

Please use the grid to help learn the spellings or use LOOK, COVER, WRITE, CHECK.

Red Group: ‘sl.pl and fl ’ sound at the start of words.

Words such as: slip, plug and flop

Yellow Group: ‘oo’ spelling pattern

Words such as: moon , spoon , maroon

Can I ask that you encourage your children as far as possible to be using cursive writing and forming their letters correctly and starting and ending at the correct point.

https://teachhandwriting.co.uk/continuous-cursive-beginners-choice-4.html give a great example of where cursive letters should start and end as well as where each letters leading lines are.

Green Group: Word lists in the homework jotter.

Numeracy

I will also be sending home a 2x table worksheet as we have been revising the 2x table over the last week.  It isn’t compulsory to complete but is recommended.

Have a lovely week everyone!

Miss Ramsay

P5 Info – 30.11.20

Hi all,

Just a gentle reminder that children should come dressed appropriately for P.E on Wednesday’s and they can bring in an extra hoody/jumper to wear in the class.

🔬We had science with Mrs Cumming yesterday afternoon and learned all about water filtration. The children had lots of fun creating their own fair experiments of water filters.

*Mrs Cumming is gathering some materials for science, we are looking for the following: empty plastic bottles (2 litre ones), water bottle caps (the ones you push up and down) and any old CD’s/DVD’s. Thank you.*

Yesterday (Monday), every child recieved a letter regarding our filming of a Christmas song in school. This year every class has chosen a Christmas song and we will be filming us lip syncing or using sign language along with the song. This letter must be initialled against every statement and signed by Monday 7th December, if you wish for your child to take part. If this letter is not returned or filled out then your child will not be taking part.

Christmas Decorations – On Thursday, we will be decorating wooden Christmas tree decorations that students at Newbattle HS created. These will be decorated by P5/6 and then delivered to the local care homes to decorate their outdoor trees.

Christmas Cards – Children can begin to send each other Christmas cards. They can post them Mon-Thurs, cards will then be quarantined and handed out on the following Monday by P7. Please ensure the child’s class is written on the front.

Christmas Celebration –  Children can wear a Christmas jumper this day rather than bring other clothes to change into. We will be watching a Panto ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ and having some time outside to play!  Thursday 17th December. Cost £2 (This covers food, prizes and a charity donation).

⭐️ ZOOM Assembly on Friday at 11:30AM.

Homework 📝

Reading 📚- Pages to be read will be written in your child’s reading record daily. Please ensure reading is completed every night with an emphasis on expression.

Spelling✏️ – The new spelling list was copied down yesterday morning (Monday).

Maths/Numeracy 🔢 – Apologises that the homework was not uploaded onto Google Classroom last week, I had quite a few technical issues. This week I have printed the numeracy worksheet and children will bring this home today.

Thank you,

Miss Lauren Waller
